Well, I'm in the same boat........Except that I was trying to help my boyfriend who is disabled after a hunting accident, and gets a measly $570.00 per month from SSI. Thank you to the post by Michael from Chadds Ford, PA for pointing out that bad things do happen.

Anyhow, I checked out the internet AFTER they cashed my $49.00 check, and after 2 weeks of waiting for rush delivery. I read through several posts, and I am angry that this company is getting away with this.

M. Steven Papi gave helpful instructions in dealing with this, as well as B.K. from Hanson, Mass. Thanks to the both of them. B.K. gave us the registered agent for this company...

I started my battle today:

I called People's Credit First requesting a refund. Not surprisingly, they told me my card was in processing, and I would have to wait until I received it to send it back and get a refund. I am going to write them a letter today requesting a refund, so I can begin to get my paperwork in order. I am then writing to their registered agent. (Frankly, I don't know what that is, but I'm writing to them anyway!)

So, off I went to the internet... http://www.doacs.state.fl.us (suggested by another person who posted... Thanks to whomever that was...), and I went to the Attorney General's site, which directs you to the Division of Consumer Services. That site has a link to file a complaint, and it took about 3 minutes of my time.

I also contacted my bank to close my checking account, and give me a new one, so these "people" don't fraudulently debit my checking account. A pain, yes, but well worth the prevention I gain.

I might also write to the secretary of state.. I don't know why. Probably someone else mentioned it. Here's the address:

Jim Smith, Secretary of State
Florida Department of State
PL-02, The Capitol
Tallahassee, Florida 32399-0250
(850) 245-6500

My point is, this company is NOT going to keep my money. I will do whatever needs done to get my money back, and the more of us that proceed with determination, the better the chance we get our money back. Or the company can be investigated and stop getting rich off people trying very hard to make their life better. Join me! Don't just sit there and let them keep your money!

I got my refund........................

Today I received a refund check from People's Credit First for the full $49.00. I don't know whether it was because they knew I complained to all the agencies I listed or not, or if they really are following their refund policy. I don't care why, I'm just glad the refund came....

They received my certified return receipt package on 8-26, and the check came today, 9-3. For those of you waiting, don't give up.......Get their package back to them and request an immediate refund. Write to the agencies listed in my 8-15 post if you would like also. Something worked for me. Good luck!

Quick update.............amazingly, the package arrived in my mailbox on 8-16-02. I typed a letter requesting my refund, and it is going out certified return receipt, with their package, back to them. Will update the board if they refund the money as promised in their initial mailing.

You are doing the right thing, may I also suggest you contact Phonebusters, they are in Canada tollfree number 1-888-495-8501 or you can file complaint online at www.phonebusters.com

Peoples is linked to the infamous Capital Choice Consumer Credit, (as well as many others) in Florida. Most of which only have a PO Box, but none the less, they are able to transfer billions of dollars they have scammed through these mail boxes! The state of Florida is a shambles, and the politicians there needs a "overhaul"..They do not know how to vote, and they lose their children, what the heck do you think they will do about these frauds?
