Complaint Review: PeopleSmart

PeopleSmart is apparently in the business of ripping people off. I signed up for a one-week trial to do an email reverse lookup for $1 and change.  It did not work. I cancelled the service 20 minutes later. I then received an email confirming I had been charged for a year's subscription of nearly $30 and this charge would continue until I terminated. There was no indication if this was a yearly or monthly charge. Although I had already been ripped off, I tried to terminate the account through their website and sonn found that it was a labarynthine journey to nowhere.  There is no way to terminate the account.  Eventually I somehow recieved an email asking if I wanted to terminate the account.  However, I would not receive the one-month charge of nearly $30, and of course given their credibility at that point, no guarantee they would cancel ever.  I was forced to call my credit card company who intervened and got a rep on the phone who cliamed the $1+ special I signed up for was to just to find someone's street address.  This is false.  He then said I would be liable for the one-month fee, even though I havd never signed up for this. He claimed I had by default.  Morally bankrupt ripoff companies like this should be shut down by law.
