PEP BOYS Misadvertising and ripoff deceptive company Rock Hill South Carolina
I checked out the Pep Boys web site and saw that they had tires for $80/set, in and out in 59 min. or less. I get there and they hit me up for $10 a tire to mount and balance, plus $2 for the stems. Thats $48 in fees for $80 tires. Now where on their web or the store was there mentioned hidden fees. Also the salesman POWERS told me that the $40 was for road hazard warranty, 5000-mile rotation and other perks that come with the purchase of the tire.
I got the tires put on, and the 59 min and out deal was a scam. I sat there for 3 hours, when my car was finished I went home and went back the next day, to let cooler heads prevail. Upon arrival I was told that the $10 per tire was standard, and the the stuff POWERS told me I was paying for I was not, no RH warranty etc..
I was then told by the Store Mgr William S Simon, that the reason it took so long was that they were short on help. SO! Also the 59 min or less only starts when the car is pulled into the bay. I have no idea when my car was pulled into the bay, all my receipt says is that I arrived at 950 and was completed at 1251.
I have scoured their web page looking for a disclaimer and have yet to find one that apply to my situation. Im from a small town in the coalfields of Va. When you go by a tire they may charge you $27 dollars for the same tire, but they are not screwing you with all these hidden fees.
This money grubbing corporate s**t is the reason I dropped out of the world for 15 years after ten years in it. It is worse now and I have only been back in it three years, I may not last much longer if corporate a*****e like Pep Boys keep f***ing me with HIDDEN FEES,LYING ADVERTISMENTS and a*****e CROOKS FOR MANAGERS AND CORPORATE HEADS.

Leo,
As I stated if you want the tires mounted, you have to pay to have them balanced. Pep Boys is no where as ignorant of the Tort laws as you are. If they were to put tires on a car unbalanced and I was to wreck because of their lack of performing an importrant part of tire installation, they would be sued. No matter what you call it, it is a charge that I MUST pay to have the tires installed, unless I want to take them with me and do it myself, LMAO.
As for the salesman not explainging the options, he alluded that the $9.99 was for road hazzard. He also stated that you could not refuse the fee for balancing/faux RH Warrenty.
As for the 3 hour wait. I was promised tires in less than an hour. There was nothing mentioned about "when the car is in the bay". That is a blatant misleading advertisment.
As for you guys busting your tails because of sick employees or ones in emergency. The manager stated that they did not have enough help because they were short on help. Short as in did not have enough people hired, and we are are taking applications, to do the work quickly.
I am not saying that you are dishonest, I am saying that are fees that are not explained properly, disclosed or fees that are being explained as something else.I am sure that if people were told that $20 tires really ment $34 tires and that the hour wait was truly 3hours, you would have no business.
AND DON"T YELL AT ME AGAIN YOU COMPANY SUCK a*****e!!!!!!!!

IT REALY BOTHERS ME TO KEEP READING THE WORDS"INSTALLATION FEES"..PEP BOYS DOES NOT,I REPEAT, DOES NOT CHARGE FOR INSTALLING TIRES!!
THE CHARGE IS FOR BALANCING YOUR NEW TIRES!AND THIS CHARGE,LIKE ALL THE OTHER"HIDDEN"CHARGES YOU KEEP COMPLAINING ABOUT ARE YOUR OPTIONS,YOU CAN AND HAVE THE RIGHT TO DECLINE THESE...
DISHONEST PEOPLE ARE NOT WHAT HAVE KEPT THIS COMPANY IN BUSINESS FOR SO MANY YEARS,SO I TRULY DOUBT THE SALESMAN DIDN'T EXPLAIN THESE OPTIONS TO YOU..
YOU SHOULD HAVE SIGNED A WORKORDER BEORE WORK WAS BEGUN,WHICH ITEMIZES ALL CHARGES,THEN YOU HAD 3 HOURS TO SIT AND READ THIS DOCUMENT AND QUESTION ANYTHING THAT DID'NT SEEM RIGHT..
YES ITS AN INCONVENIENCE TO WAIT LONGER THAN EXPECTED,BUT SOMETIMES THINGS COME UP THAT ARE BEYOND OUR CONTROL,ALL WE CAN DO IS OUR BEST T ACCOMODATE EVERYONE..
AND FOR 1 MINUTE THINK OF THE GUYS BUSTIN THEIR TAILS DUE TO OTHER EMPLOYEES BEING SICK OR HAVING OTHER EMERGENCIES...WELCOME BACK TO THE REAL WORLD!!!

You missed the total meaning of my gripe. I was promised several things which were not delivered. $80 tires, there was no mention in the webads to mounting charges, I can live with the recycling fees. The 59 min. or less. I was there for THREE HOURS, with no idea how long my car was "in the bay". Road hazzard may not be tires, but neither is $40 mounting fees road hazard, you comrade alluded that it was.
Who buys tires and does not expect them to have anyway to keep the air in them.
I am complaing about the lack of disclosure in your ads. The hidden "fees" that appear when it gets down to it.
As a company man I can assume that you see nothing wrong. But if you went to a restraunt and expected a $10 lobster, then was hit with $5 plate charge, $3 silverware and a $2 napkin charge, you would be upset also. If they promised the meal w/in 1 hour and it took 3 hours and the reason was "...we are short on staff, ...and the time starts when the cook gets the order.", even YOU would consider it a scam. So please just because you work for the Company doesn't mean you shouldn't recognize a scam when you see one.
You must not be a main person at Pep Boys because you do not even konw the fees your self. The $9.99 mounting fee applies if the tire is $10 or $200, there is no way out of the mounting fee, so to say that I could of gotten by with $80 had I done what you say is total ignorance of the way that your company works. If I had the tires installed w/o stems and kept the old tires it still would have been $133. That 80 for the tire, 8 for disposal fees(sc tax on tires) and 40 for the mounting, plus tax.
Also George, you should read the other rip-off reports on your company, I am not the only one who is having problems.

4 tires for 80.00 if you did not have the tires installed and took them with you it would have been 80.00 plus tax 80.00 is just for the tires valve stems arent tires road hazzard is not tires dispoal fees arent tires installation is not tires tire are just tires if you just had the tires installed without valve stems without road hazzard and you kept your old tires it would have been 80.00
