I brought my E350 6.0 Diesel truck in for a cold hesitation and belt noise and was told that the mechanic checked it out and it needed a fuel tank and a fuel pump ($4,200.00) and a pulley for the belt noise ($460.00). I told them I would get a plastic tank and aftermarket pump and install myself, after picking up the truck the water and fuel light came on and I thought this is odd since they stated that the filters were checked yet after inspection I realized they had checked nothing and only based the diagnosis on common problems. I did some research and found a update for the fuel pressure regulator. I proceeded to test the pressure and found it to be 35 psi and it should be 45 psi without the update and 68 psi with the update, after replacing the regulator the pressure came up to the spec. Had I told them to replace the parts they wanted to I would have spent $4,200 and it would not have fixed the problem, the regulator kit was $90.00. The belt noise problem that I was charged $460.00 returned 2 days later so I returned the truck to them and was told they would find the problem. I returned days later was told they can't find any noise, I took the keys went out to the truck and it won't start. After a lot of arguing they insisted it ran 2 hours before but would look at it. The service writer called me and insisted I had bad fuel (this was the same fuel that had been in the tank for a month and the truck started and drove fine) I explained to him that fuel just doesn't go bad in a mater of hours (I was an NIASE Certified World class technician for 18 years and owned a service station for 5 years) after some back and forth arguing I determined the technician missed a important clue to the problem because it didn't act like others with the same issue. Days later I am told the FICM was bad, $1,275.06 later I picked up the truck. Belt is still making noise Truck now surges at idle Truck looses power intermittently I will be going back tomorrow and it won't be pretty. This dealer has very poorly trained technicians or should I say parts changers. If you want it fixed right the first time then don't go to Performance Ford.
