My husband bought a beautiful siberian husky puppy, 7 weeks old from this dirtbag peet store. The puppy died 2 weeks later from bacteria which settled in her heart and constricted it. I was completely heart broken. She was an angel and did not deserve what happened to her because of greedy individuals.

She came from an over bred mother and a litter where a couple litter mates had died prior to our purchase. So the pet store knowingly sold us a dog who came from a sickly litter. We spent $400 for the puppy and $800 on medical bills. The pet store owner refused to give us the money for the puppy back at least.

I later found out he had bought the entire litter and paid between $100 and $150 for each puppy. Quite a hefty profit that jerk made. In the past few months I have heard of other incidents from this pet shop from a friend who works at a vet clinic here in town. One couple bought a puppy with parvo and the other had the mange! Another puppy had scabies while a friend of ours bought 2 kittens from there and both died within days of purchase.

I just wanted to tell my story to persuade others to stop shopping at pet stores for their animals. Please find a reputable breeder in your area or go to another state if you have to. Check the laws in your state and find out your rights. Tell your breeder to make a contract guaranteeing the health of the puppy for one year from it's 8 week birthday. If you are dealing with a good breeder they should be happy to do so.

AKC dogs that are genetically guaranteed are another safeguard. You may pay more in the beginning but it will pay off in the long run for you and your family saving great heart ache. If you want reform write your government and demand stricter animal rights and consumer of animals rights. No sale before an animal is 8 weeks old, guarantee of health for one year, and veterinary proof of deworming and shots (so you can go to the vets office if you have to).

For anyone elso who has lost a pet shop pet my thoughts are with you!

Pet Store Pets

#3Consumer Suggestion

Sun, December 04, 2005

As the holidays approach us, and we visit those adorable puppies with the sad eyes at the pet stores, please resist. When will the general public learn that most of these puppies are from large puppy mills. They sit, stand, lay in their own waste day in and day out as their mothers do. These Mill breeders are in this business for a reasonand its not to maintain the integrity of the breed. Its for profit, and only profit. There are pet stores who purchase and resell puppies from local and reputable breeders. Make sure when you purchase a darling, little puppy you can call the breeder for information and that it's a local breeder. Reputable breeders are less likely to continue to breed a b***h if there are know genetic issues. The pet stores purchase these mill puppies at a fraction of their value. So the mill has to keep turning out more and more puppies. The pet store then marks the value of the purchase price up 1000% or more. Now we can tell all our friends that we have a very expensive Labrador in our back yard, isn't she beautiful. She is beautiful until her hips fail, or that she has a genetic issue which causes her immune system to fail. (Been there done that). There are so many homeless pets in shelters, yet we keep breeding and the AKC keeps issuing pedigrees. Where will it end. I volunteer for a rescue group. We place purebred dogs everyday in wonderful loving homes at a fraction of the price. Yes I love the smell of a fat little puppy, and like most people hold every puppy at the pet store. However I come home to two wonderful dogs. One that I purchased from a local breeder and paid much less than I would have at the pet store. The other one I adopted from a kill shelter in the south. These purebred dogs have 3-5 days to be adopted. They are euthanized if they are not. They wag their tails as they are being put into a large modified dumpster and the cover lowered and the gas is put in. They cry until the last one doesn't cry any longer. Off to the incinerator or sometimes just the landfilland we keep breeding more and more dogs. Please consider adoption.

Sorry For The Loss of Your Puppy!

#3Consumer Comment

Sun, December 04, 2005

First off, I would just like to tell you that I am deeply sorry for the loss of your Husky. They are such beautiful dogs.

I would also like to say that I have purchased two beautiful CKC registered pets from Pet Pagoda. The day that I bought them the owner of the store gave me a few pieces of advice, tips if you will. He advised that I take my pets to the vet (just to be sure) within twenty four hours of purchase. If there was to be anything seriously wrong with them, he would be more than happy to either replace them or give me a refund. I took both of them straight to the vet and thankfully, nothing was wrong with them. I understand how upset you must be about your Husky but I am pretty sure that the infection she had didn't start up in the two weeks that you had her. The owner is a good man. He will work with anybody and he will help anyone as best he can. He is most certainly not a "slime-ball".

I understand that you invested alot of time and emotions into your Husky puppy and that it was a very painful thing to go through, but you don't have to resort to name calling. It's quite childish.
