My dog "Rusty" who has a limp weak left ear was referred to Dr. Hansen by the manufacturers of a medical ear implant known as PermaStay. The dog underwent cosmetic ear surgery on March 14 2019 using the fore mentioned devise. After returning home and allowing "Rusty" time to heal from the operation I discovered that the procedure had failed to correct the problem. It seems the implant was improperly placed which resulted in his ear bending over at it's mid point. I reported my observations to Pfennig Lane Animal Hospital and was scheduled for a follow up appointment. Dr. Hansen examined "Rusty" and commented that the procedure was in fact a failure and was the third one to date. It was agreed that the temporary spine within the implant should be removed in hopes of correcting the ear from falling over at the mid point. This procedure took place on May 7 2019. After five weeks of posting the ear as I was instructed to do the ear now falls completely over and lays on the dogs head in an unnatural position. I once again was told via phone that the procedure was a failure. It's my belief that the implant was improperly inserted into the dogs ear creating a worse condition than prior to the first surgery. I have not received any additional information for a remedy to this failure.
