Based on previous experience with price and durability I purchased a New 37" Philips Color TV. At 11 months it started with poor picture, at 16 months it would shut itself off. I called Philips support and was told they would get back to me. Eighteen months later and 37 phone calls the TV started with white lines and we called for service and were told to call a different number. Well after spending hours on hold and being to call somewhere else I gave up. Until at 22 months the TV went black. I spent 36 hours on the phone trying to get my extended warrenty honored. I was sent to a TV repair shop that would only work on the TV if they were paid cash up front. This was a TV repair shop that Philips sent me to for warrenty work. The repair shop then told me that the set would have to be sent to Phillips, but $250.00 cost up front.I paid for the service call and got back onto the phone with Philips another 9-10 hours. They said they would pay for the service call, I faxed them a copy of bill and check which was used for payment. That was 6 months ago.

Well I have a 22 month old box which dont work and costs to fix are not worth it. And Philips wont honor thier warrenty. I have written and called them at various corporate levels and they dont care. Once Philips sells you a junk product they Do Not Care.

So I went out and bought a Panasonic TV. Butt ! But !! In the meantime I found out that Philips Engineers put a smaller resistor on the picture tube yoke circet board to save 13 Cents.

Yup 13 cents they saved, but the resistor of lower wattage fails in the circet. They knew this and still have not made a consumer recall to repair this defect. They could have at least repaired sets as they failed from this.

Philips only response was to make consumer pay $250.00 + $50.00 service call to fix a $500.00 TV.

Radio Shack sells the part for $1.10 and any TV tech can install it in 30 minutes.

Thank you Philips I'll never buy another one of your products.

I had the same problem with my Magnavox TV.

#2Consumer Suggestion

Fri, September 05, 2008

I just filed a Report as well titled: Magnavox A/k/a Phillips TV Turns Off after 1 Year - Bad Lamp Purchased At Sam's Club, Pinellas Park, FL Internet-Nationwide.

I found out the tv turns off due to a bad Mercury Vapor DLP Lamp(Bulb). My suggestion is to try a local tv store that may do trades or has parts. We just bought a replacement bulb for $200, this is the cheapest I have found one.

Good luck!
