Phyllis is the worst person I have ever met. I was hired to act in a play that she was directing. For the first 3 hours that I was in rehearsal, all she did was talk about herself and her measly accomplishments, which, in reality, she hasn't done anything in about 20 years, and even then, said accomplishments were her daughter's, not hers. I figured that she really wanted us to get to know her so that we could better communicate and work together. NO. She did this lecture every single day. No one could plan anything after rehearsal because it was an affront to her if you had to leave on time.

When we finally got to tech week, 2 months later, she worked us 10 hours a day with no days off. Almost everyone was sick by opening night. She would make us show up to rehearsal an hour before the space was even open for...some reason? Then she would call a meeting on the stage and give her 2-3 hour speech about herself and her accomplishments whilst treating the cast like imbeciles.

She spent the entire budget on one prop that was entirely unnecessary.

She quit opening night, because the producer wouldn't let her daughter come in as the "celebrity guest" (because she's a celebrity??) and sing a song in the middle of the show. Her daughter cannot sing. At all.

This woman is a fraud and a disgrace to the entire entertainment industry. I've heard horror stories from others about her hiring herself as their manager and then not doing ANYTHING to forward their careers. She's disgusting. And cruel. And vindictive. Oh! And she likes to play the race card if you have any problem with the way she does things.

PHYLLIS LARRYMORE-KELLY - A GIFT TO THE ACTING PROFESSION

#2General Comment

Mon, March 30, 2015

After reading the above report in regard to Phyllis Larrymore-Kelly, I felt compelled to write this response.

I have known Mrs. Larrymore-Kelly for over 4 years and she has been a gift and a blessing to the actors and actresses she has mentored. Her many years of experience, wealth of knowledge, and known accomplishments in the acting industry are to be recognized and admired.

She is a woman of character & integrity who generously gives of her time to help the careers of individuals who are involved in theater and music. Her caring and compassion for each individual she mentors is very apparent by her words and actions.

I can attest to the above because my daughter was involved in a production that Mrs. Larrymore-Kelly directed. I attended many of the rehearsals as well as the shows of the on stage production. During the rehearsals I recall Mrs. Larrymore-Kelly sharing an experience or two to help the cast with a scene or to educate the cast in regard to the industry. A sharing of such experiences was welcomed by those cast members who wanted to learn and excel in acting. It created a more personable and comfortable relationship between her and the cast.

As I watched the rehearsals, it was apparent that Mrs. Larrymore-Kelly's focus was to bring out and enhance each cast member's talents. She gave individual time to each actor and actress as well as positive, constructive direction and advice. In addition to her focus on her casts' personal talents, she also emphasized the importance of personal character. She was very respectful of her cast treating them with fairness and dignity.

Mrs. Larrymore-Kelly was very conscious of and attended to her cast. I recall frequent, necessary breaks throughout rehearsals. Timely meals were served and a table with water, drinks and snacks was available at rehearsal locations. Rehearsal time varied depending on what scenes needed to be practiced. Rehearsals generally lasted 3-5 hours and as would be expected would be longer as it came closer to Opening night. In my opinion, Mrs. Larrymore-Kelly as well as the cast devoted the time that was necessary to produce a successful show.

To this day, my daughter speaks highly about Mrs. Larrymore-Kelly and is grateful for being part of the production she was in.
