I purchased several items from Kevin Martin from Piece of the Past for resale. One of the items was a framed Carroll Shelby autograph. Unfortunately the item was poorly made and a Shelby Snake patch fell off the back board due to incorrectly attachment. We opened the piece and properly secured the patch.

The item was eventually sold but the "Certificate of Authencity" was incorrect for the item purchased. There was several discrepancies including the location of the signature, color of the ink, and method of signature. Proof of the original item and the incorrect certificate was provided to Kevin requesting him to provide the correct certificate and confirm with our customer the validation of his company.

Kevin's response was for us to take the item back. We lost a sale, plus the shipping cost and credit card fees. I attempted on several occasions to review the preceding with Kevin Martin but he would just hang up. He refused to take our telephone calls or to resolve his mistake of providing the incorrect certificate.

When a challenge occurs, Kevin Martin will NOT stand behind his product or his company. I highly recommend to avoid this individual and his company. I have had the preceding confirmed with other prominent retailers in Las Vegas who offer framed autographs and will NOT do business with Kevin Martin.

He is not considered honorable nor will resolve challenges created by his company. Please confirm with other firms before considering Piece of the Past.

More problem, more unauthenticated pieces

Unfortunately the statement by Kevin Martin is extremely inaccurate. The framed autograph items was obtained at the Russo and Steel Auction in Newport Beach 10 June 2018 ( not after three years )
The certificate of authenticity on one item was incorrect which caused our customer to question the authenticity of the item.

Proof of the preceding was provided by our office and by our customer. Presently detail images of the incorrect COA has been listed on RIPP OFF and YELP. The whole issue is the failure of Kevin Martin to provide proof the autograph of Carroll Shelby was authentic. Because he refused we were required to have the item returned providing a full credit to the customer plus pay the shipping fees and minus credit card fees.

The result was our having an unathenticated framed Carroll Shelby which could not be sold. Though we requested the assistance of Kevin Martin, he refused. We filed reports on RIPP OFF and Yelp. Kevin Martin contacted our office requesting our assistance in removing the remarks. I provided an offer that if he would provide two autographed Carroll Shelby checks with valid COA we would return the two remaining items.
We did receive the checks but the paper provided for a COA was invalid. Though we had two checks, we received identical paper with no indication of the specifics of the check. The standard of the industry is to provide a hallogrpahic number label attached to the item being authenticated and also on the COA. Because of our past experience of the customer requiring us to return the item, we requested a proper COA. Kevin Martin refusted.

We contacted several autograph authenticators confirming the paper provided by Kevin Martin was insufficient. Because Kevin Martin could not provide the correct COA, the checks were sent for authencity and a COA to Authentic Autograph Unlimited AAU in Las Vegas, Nevada. Because Kevin Martin could not provide the required COA, we requested to be reimbursed for their services. Again he refused. It will take two weeks for certification. At present we can not confirm the validity of the checks provided. Kevin Marin is claiming theft yet he voluntary sent the check but not proof of anthenticity.

If Kevin Martin woul have acknowledged his mistake at the beginning and provided the validation of the item he sold this challenge would have been resolved. We are again in a situation in which Kevin Martin has provided what should be cancelled sign checks by Carroll Shelby which is yet to be confirmed.

Unfortunately Kevin Martin will not acknowledge his mistakes or willing to correct a challenge that would have been easy to resolve.

Beware of Buying

As noted by the attached images, it is clearly shown that Kevin Martin provided the wrong COA for the framed Carroll Shelby autograph. It would have been impossible for us to have created the incorrect COA. Though when the preceding was presented to Kevin Martin, his only response was for us to take the item back.

It would have been extremely simple for Kevin Martin to address this matter and confirm to our customer the item is original and provide the correct COA. The present situation is that we took a great monetary loss in the sale and having to absorb shipping and commission fees plus credibility with our client.  We presently have a undocumented framed imaged without any certification of authencity.

On his Certificate of Authencity, Kevin Martin indicates he is a member of UACC ( Universal Autograph Collectors Club ) When attempting to confirm the preceding on their web site, Kevin Martin nor Piece of the Past is listed. The preceding was also noted with his alledged membership with the IADA, the Manuscript Society, and the Ephemera Society.

The attached images clearly prove that Kevin Martin made a mistake and provided the wrong COA. Instead of being professional and acknowledging his mistake, he responds with invalid excuses. The item was our purchased from Kevin Black on 10 June 2018 at the Russo & Steele Auction in Newport Beach, California.

Kevin Martin's remark in his rebuttal is that it was acquired "YEARS AND YEARS Ago". The facts clearly indicate Kevin Martin refuses to be responsible for his errors making unjustified remarks to justify his mistakes. The matter could have been easily resolved but Kevin Martin's actions question his validty of a businessman and the quality of his product.   We again state, Beware of attempting to invest with Piece of the Past and Kevin Martin.

Unfortunately Kevin Martin does not address the actual facts of errors made by himself and his company.

The product provided was inferior in that the Cobra patch literally fell off the back board. If the product was properly fabricated we would not have had to reattach the patch.

The most critical issue is that Kevin Martin did not provide the correct COA. A copy of the incorrect COA was sent to him by email and by our customer. Kevin Martin totally ignores this fact which was proven.

We attempted to contact Kevin Martin by telephone. He would hang up the phone or refuse to answer. Again Kevin Martin does not address this issue.

Due to his error of providing an incorrect COA, we were required to refund our customer because Kevin Black would not acknowledge his mistake. It would have been very simple to resolve this challenge but Kevin Martin refused to respond in any manner. His only advise was to take the item back at our exspense but he would not assist our company in any manner.

At present we have the item without a correct COA which has been proven is inaccurate. Instead of providing the correct document, Kevin Martin has choosen to ignore his mistake hoping in time it would go away.

I formally requested the item be returned and our monies refunded if he can not provide validation of the item received.

I highly recommend potential investors to take caution before considering items from Piece of the Past.

This allegation is untrue in a great many ways. Our certificates of authenticity illustrate the actual item sold. Years and years after purchasing this framed item this individual called me and sAid they had sold the item on eBay but were getting threats of a refund because of a typo on our coa. I asked what the typo was.

He stated the item is clearly signed in black ink in the illustration but your coa says blue ink. Believing we had made a typo I agreed to replace the coa. We asked obviously to see the coa. He refused saying the buyer had it. So I asked him to send the eBay listing which would show the coa. He refused that. But he had sent us a screen capture of the buyers remarks so we contacted the buyer they sent us detailed pictures that the item had been removed from the frame and taped up on the back in a crude way.

When I told him this he stated he was fixing frame. I explained to him the coa shows an an entirely different item so we could not reissue coa. He flew into a rage and said he would ruin our reputation online which he is now attempting to do. By the way in a recorded phone call on voice mail he stated by name ONE company in Las Vegas who wouldn’t deal with us who he mentions in his post here this is also untrue as we quit dealing with that company years and years ago as they have such a bad reputation for selling bad pieces and in fact are on this site numerous times

Otherwise we are the largest wholesaler in this city with a 34 year reputation. So it is true we do not reissue COAs on tampered with items we didn’t sell. Nor does any other reputable dealer . We have all our correspondence with this person and the emails with proof from his buyer for anyone to see.
