I cannot believe no one has spoke out about how Pilgrims Pride operates in Nacogdoches Texas.  If you are unlucky enough to hire on as a line worker, you are forced into signing up to be in the Union.  Now if you ask the HR dept. you are not forced to do anything.  You just do not get hired.  So lets say you sign.  Now just over ten dollars a week comes out of your paycheck as union dues.  Now your told that you have to work there one year, find your union rep.  (good luck) That person is usually asleep in the plant somewhere.  Or you can try calling the union number.  And you'll get a recording to leave your name and number, and someone will get back to you.  So you wait.  And you wait.  You may even call again.  But still, on return phone call.  Union?  What union?  Ever wonder why when you drive by the plant you always see the Now Hiring banner out front?  On average, 25-50 people hire on per week.  on average 25-30 quit per week.  The plant has gone through the work force in the the Nacogdoches Lufkin are.  Now everyone diverse a second change in life.  But when you see Nacogdoches County jail van pull up, and watch them get hired, just how safe of a work environment do you have.  So now they (Pilgrims) uses a staffing agency.  I have no problem with someone from another country coming over her to better him/her self and family.  But, the staffing agency does not check I-9 or any other papers.  Didn't Pilgrims go through this before?  Yes, sounds familiar.  Now all of these people need jobs.  So these things will continue.  Low pay for industry work, poor treatment of employee's.  I could go on, but really, whats the point.  The 'good old boy' system has been and always will be how things are done here in Nacogdoches.

Union Officers and Financials

#2Consumer Suggestion

Mon, February 22, 2010

You should visit the Federal Department of Labor website.  On the website you can download the LM-2 filings from your union-these will tell you who the union officers are and are financial statements for your union.  If the union is NOT providing representation, you can contact the National Labor Relations Board and file a complaint.

I would suggest contacting one of your union officers before filing any formal complaints.  If they are taking dues from you, they MUST provide you with representation.
