Pimsleur Approach Deceptive Selling Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
I bought an introductory offer of Spanish for $9.95 with my credit card on line. I received the CDs and started on the introductory course but due to family medical issues was unable to continue. Then I received two more shipments of CD's, which I never opened, with no return address on them. I was out of town staying with my wife who was in the hospital when the first package came. I didn't open it and some time later I opened the box. I was concerned because I hadn't ordered anything else. The advertising on the internet said $9.95... period!! Later when reviewing my credit card billing I saw a charge for $64. Soon after I received ANOTHER box and then checked my credit card and another periodic payment of $64 was there. I called Pimsleur and told them I didn't want the course and was sending it back, unused. I was told that they would still charge me over $265 for the course. I Disputed the credit card billing with Citibank and am awaiting resolution.
This whole thing was underhanded and I didn't sign anything and if there was some hidden "gotcha" I surely didn't see it.
Pathetic.
