In late summer, my husband purchased the $9.95 CD to learn spanish in 10 lessons. He didn't realize that by purchasing this one disk he would be automatically sent more and charged $256 dollars for the set. He ended up in the hospital about 30 days after receiving the disk, which he never opened. While at the hospital a box came in from them, which again went unopened for weeks while he was in and out of surgery and recovering. When we finally opened it, realized they were trying to charge his card for the balance.

I called the company on (866) 204-7139 and after being given a song and dance by the CSR about not having the power to cancel anything, I asked to speak to a manager. She too tried to tell me that I couldn't return the item or request a cancellation. When she realized that I was NOT going to take no for an answer (I was two weeks away from the 90 day dealine to cancel) she finally gave me a cancellation return authorization number and the correct address to mail it to. I followed ALL instructions to a T. I sent back EVERYTHING that was in the box exactly as it came to us, I wrote the return authorization number on the box with a large sharpie so it was nice and clear and sent it via UPS 2Day with proof of delivery.

Three weeks later, I received a past due notice letter from them stating that we are past due on the $256.00 charge for the set we returned. I immediately called the same number again. This time, the CSR (Javier maybe) checked our account and noted that everything had in fact been recieved and cancelled for our account and that there was no outstanding balance. He then assured me that we would not be receiving any more billing letters from them as the account was closed. I am keeping all of my documentation, since I have a feeling this will not be the last time I have to go through this.

Also, right on the order blank is the following "By clicking below, I'll be charged $9.95 and agree to adjacent purchase program Terms and Conditions."

All your other excuses are just that...excuses for failure to read and heed the Terms of the offer.

What was the Ripoff?

Wow, late summer, what, July or August and it's now DECEMBER?  How is any of this Pimseleur's fault?
