Last spring I ordered a couple language CDs from Pimsleur Approach for $9.95 on a lark.  This was an email solicitation and an introductory offer.  (They incidentally seem quite dated- more geared toward early 90s dating.  There is nothing about the written language or grammar, so ultimately quite useless. Rosetta Stone is probably better.)    Approximately one month later, more CDs arrived, then six weeks later more cds.

I sent a terse letter to the company after the first package asking for a return authorization and shipping voucher.  There was no response.

They are sneaky.  They started charging my account $64 every two months.  I did not notice this until doing year end statements/books.  They are into me for $192, and still trying to get another $384.

I have contacted the company by phone.  They claim I was aware that I would be charged and that it was clearly stated on their website.  This is patently not true.  I was very careful when ordering.  This is internet commerce after all.  These terms were not stated on the website.  I believe they are behaving fraudulently.  The upshot is they refuse to give me a refund.

My credit card company has blocked them, and they are trying to recover the last two charges.  AVOID PIMSLEUR APPROACH AT ALL COSTS!!!!!  Even if two charges are recovered I will still be out $64.  If only the materials were better!

This notice is on their order page and to order your trial CD's you agree you have read and understand it.

"Pimsleur Rapid Fluency Purchase Program: One month after you receive your Quick & Simple you'll begin receiving 30 day trial copies of advanced Pimsleur courses in the language you selected. Each course is yours to try for 30 days. You'll receive a new course once every 60 days. For each course you keep we'll bill you in four monthly payments of $64. Remember, there's never an immediate obligation to buy any course because of the 30-day trial period provided with each shipment. And you may cancel future shipments at any time by calling 1-877-802-5283."

Looks like you should have ignored the lark and actually READ the terms.

YOU werren't ripped off, other than possibly poor lesson materials.

You REALLY did agree to the terms and now don't want to pay.
