Pivotal Payments bought out the company who was handling our credit card transactions. We knew nothing about the transfer until we received a letter from our representative that they had taken over and would now be processing the transactions. This was followed by a notice on the statement that the transition was complete.
We received no notice of any changes in terms or policies of any kind. Our previous company did not have a cancellation fee. We found another processor that offered a drastic reduction in our fees. Since the company we had been with for 20 or so years no longer existed, we decided to choose another company.
When we notified Pivotal Payments that we were closing our account, they informed us that we had to pay a cancellation fee. We objected because our contract clearly stated that there was no cancellation fee. They insisted they had emailed a notice of change in terms and our continued use of the account implied acceptance. We responded that we had no knowledge of the change in terms, had received no email, and had no decision to opt in or out.
Please note that there was no attempt to persuade us to stay - just a rude attack and threat. We decided we would never have anything to do with this company again.
Fearing that this company would do something unexpected, we closed our bank account. Sure enough, today they attempted to withdraw $58,000 from our account. Thankfully, they didn't get it!
