We were conned into buying an alternate year studio at Playa del Sol Grand, Puerto Vallarta.  We wrote to the management  in san Diego to complain and they assured us that the salesman in question was a rogue element.  This year, they are demanding an "extraordinary fee" of 116$ (to be incraesed to 200$ after August 16) in addition to the regular maintenance fee which they will be asking for in September.  They claimed that extraodinary fees are provided for in the contract.  I reread the contract but that is not the case.

In any case, you might expect  extra fees if there were an earthquake or a tsunami, but  what they want us to pay for is what I would call ordinary maintenance: like new beach umbrellas, replacing the palapa roofs for the bar areas, replacing electric stoves and refrigerators, as well as mattresses and pillows.  How have they been using our maintenance fee money all these years if they they didn't plan to replace stuff when it wore out?  

Another thing that got my goat was they are asking owners at Playa del Sol Grand to pay for improvements in other resorts.  I did not buy a timeshare in Costa Sur or Los Cabos, so I don't see why I should pay for their new down comforters (in Mexico?!)

I wrote to them , but I'm not at all sure they're going to answer before August 16.  I live in France so I can't just see a lawyer.  I would dearly love to get rid of this timeshare but I have no idea how to do it, and I've noticed  a lot of people  on the internet telling the same tale of woe.  The trouble is, aside from moaning and groaning nobody has come up with a constructive idea.  I would love to participate in a class action suit but how?

You purchased a membership at Playa del Sol Grand (now known as Bel Air Collection).  While you are titled at one specific location, you are a Member of the Club and entitled to use any location.  Almost all timeshare operations have a provision wherein twice the annual maintenance fee can be charged once every 7 years for furniture replacement.  The purpose of this practice is to build the reserve, so needed furniture CAN be replaced.  This does not necessarily guarantee that the furniture in your assigned unit will be replaced.  It is to your advantage when the Club expands.  Expansion means more memberships will be sold, inventory will increase, and more people will be attracted to the new locations (building a more solid base).

I've spent a lot of money and i was scammed by other companies trying to cancel my timeshare. My advice is that if you're going to hire a company to help you with the problem, DO NOT PAY ANYTHING UPFRONT, because it use to be a fraud.
