My company was ripped off by PNC Bank! PNC Bank took over National City Bank and transferred my Merchant Account to a Business Basic Account. I called several times and asked if I was placed in the right account. I was told yes this is the best account for my business. I was concerned because this account cost a service charge of $20.00 per month. Twenty four months passed before my new office manager decided to visit the branch and discuss bank business.

The assistant manager found the mistake informed him and put me in a free Business Checking Account. She credited me $20.00 and charge me $ 10.00 service fee to make the switch. I was told I was set up with the Business Basic Account because it allowed you to do more than 200 transactions per month, I never acceded more than 200 transactions per month. He informed them of this and was told to go to a manager and ask for a retroactive refund.

He refused and stated it was my responsibility to change my account. He then called corporate and was told that no refund will be credited. He tried to get the Regional Mangers address to write a certified letter to her. They said to bring the letter into the local branch and they would forward it to her. We are now in the process of consulting an attorney about this matter. Its sad to think you cant trust your own bank these days when they all seem to be the real crooks.

"Twenty four months passed before my new office manager decided to visit the branch and discuss bank business"

Your office manager waited TWO YEARS before going to the new bank to discuss the account and buisness with the new bank? That's a little irresponsible don't you think? Did you bother reading any of the information the bank sent you about your new account? Also, you realize that with the amount being $480 you are looking at small claims court, right? You don't get to use an attorney there, it will just be your word vs the bank. You better have something in writing saying that they told you it was the best account.

This site is called "RipOff Report", and your "report" was on PNC.  Yet you posted YOUR contact information and company name.  So unless people actually read the text of your report they may think that someone wrote one on you.

The reason I mention this(beyond just letting you know), is that it shows inattentiveness and lack of attention to detail.   This is the same issue you have in regards to PNC.

All you mention is 2 years ago calling them up and asking if you were placed in the right account, where their answer was "yes".  Perhaps it was your phrasing of the question?  Did you ask if there were cheaper accounts?   Did you ask for anything what this account would have included?

Then inattentiveness to the account where your company basically let it go for 24 months until your new Office Manager decided to go to the bank.  Perhaps she was new because your old one was not doing their job..which would include things such as this.

You are now going to consult an attorney over $480 you want back?  Unless you can prove exactly what was said 2 years ago, and that the person who said it was intentionally misleading you, you are going to be fighting a very big uphill battle.  Where in the end you will probably not get the $480 and then on top of that have an attorney bill to contend with.  Your only saving grace may be that if you get an attorney involved they may just pay you the $480, but not because you are right, but because it is cheaper for them.

I'm sorry to hear about your misrepresented. Nevertheless, this issue comes from both sides -- the bank and you.

It is unclear what you ask the PNC rep when your bank was bought out. The person who told you about the basic business account seemed to have different point of view to what you were asking for. Do you remember what exactly did you ask that person? Did you explain your company business related to the bank in every detail? I believe that your meaning of what you were doing is different from that person was thinking. As a result, the person gave you that choice because it is the safest choice for the person and you. What if the person give you the free business and your business is too large that the account could handle, certain charges would occur. Then you would be dissatisfied. If I remember correctly (from reading on other report), free business will also charge you if you have more than $5,000 deposited in your account within a month.

On the other side, you or your manager should have gone in way long before 2 years have passed. It demonstrates your negligence. That might be the reason why they do not want to refund you.

Anyway, hope you get your problem solved -- either you accept the loss or you get refunded. But remember, you need to check every possible limitation on any bank account you have. Do NOT believe what a rep said, but believe in the writing you signed.
