Having purchased a very expensive (at the time) PNY memory module at Best Buy about two years ago for my laptop, I was convinced that I was buying a worry-free experience as the package said "Lifetime Warranty" in big letters on the front of the package, and PNY was a reputable company, right?

Started having problems recently that were fingered as a memory failure with the part. Called to get warranty replacement and was informed of the very fine print policy that required a receipt (for a two-year old purchase that had a "lifetime warranty" - why sweat a receipt to validate purchase date?) or no-go. This appears to me to be a speedbump such that PNY very infrequently has to honor their warranty at all. The module is certainly theirs, they could verify that it is, etc., but they intend to use the fine print clause to substantiate this ripoff.

President gets Tech Support to act

I sent a letter to PNY's president noting my filing here, and also giving a deadline before engaging the small claims court system, then got a call from PNY noting that they'd "try to work around this one." They did, and my computer is back up and working fine now. It is unfortunate that "Lifetime" doesn't really mean that, and so much followup was required to get them to live up to the bold print. But, case settled.
