I'm an amateur poet, duped by an unethical organization called Poets.com/Int'l Soc. of Poets and Int'l Library of Poets.

First submission in 2001, netted an acceptance and prize possibility. Which I never won. But was awarded certificate of Merit, trophy and medal costing me $139.00 for S/H and for poem read at convention. Purchased plaque $39.95 and copy of book 'The Sound of Poetry costing ' $65.00, that included my poem.

Received an advertisment to join home study classes / receiving the Laureate Certificate from the International library of Poetry. I declined.

Received a letter in 2002 stating another poem I submitted was being published in a book called 'The Best Poems and Poets of 2001' . Contacted me by e-mail 8/3/02 with convention blurb stating I won another Trophy of Merit, membership, medal, decal and patch. For a cost of $169.00 including the cost of having my poem read at convention.

I have never gone to any of their conventions, and have not purchased anything from them since 2001. I sent a letter ending our affliation, requesting my poetry be deleted from their website, Poetry.com, after discovering I was scammed Lamb.

When I sent in a poem, it was total garbage, stupidest poem you ever heard and I was also served the bullsh*t sandwich...luckily I was having fun.
I knew it was a scam similar to the "pay to model" scams...if someone really likes what you have to offer (talent) they arent going to ask you to pay, especially for goofy awards/trophies...only a moron would actually pull out an award they "paid" for and brag...lol

The daughter of a very good friend of mine was a "rube" in this scam.

They fell for it. I've seen the book in which her poem was "published". I use that term loosely. Is it just me or is it coincidental that her poem was on the very first page?

My friend and his ex-wife got into a very heated discussion about this topic. Is it a scam or is it not? He paid $85 for this book and, call me crazy, but there are more posts for this "poetry scam" then there are for Tupper Lake.

(And, I'm an absolute Tupper Lake fan!)

I, too, received and keep receiving offers to buy a book that is suppoes to have my poem in it.

After reading the many posts here on ripoffreport.com, I decided not to have anything more to do with poetry.com or any of their counterparts.

I just received another email stating my poetry is exceptional, just what they are looking for. Of course, there is their spiel for money to buy, yet, another book just so I can grace their pages with my poem and story.

Needless to say, I just deleted it.

Thanks.
