After 5 years of owning an above ground inflatable ring swimming pool, it was time for a new one. We researched prices and discovered a great deal on a 16" X 42' pool sold at Big Lots for about 50.00 less than the competition. SOLD! After 3.5 weeks of operation the pump just stopped working. My husband is a mechanic and after looking at the pump said we needed to contact them for a new one as the magnet was bad. After spending 45 minuets on hold, three separate calls later, I spoke to a very nice, knowledgable woman who knew what she was talking about. The only issue I have is that while I was on hold I researched the website for information on the pumps available, possibly hoping to upgrade as this one seemed smaller than the ones we had recieved with our Intex pool. According to the chart, a 16" X 42' pool is supposed to come with an RP 1000 pump or better. Mine was an RP700. After asking the service rep on the phone why I did not have this pump, she asked me where I purchased the pool. After stating that it was from Big Lots, she said they, Big Lots", are allowed to choose what pump to include to save on costs. My question is why would a company allow another company to make their product inferior?? I have never had an issue with the paaropriate size pump keeping up with keeping my pool clean. This has been a complete waste of money as none of the kids will swim in at because it can just not keep up, even after recieving the new pump within a few days. With half the summer left, my intention is to purchase a new 1500 gph pump by Intex for 89.00 at Benny's. can't wait to go swimming again!!

The blame must go to Big Lots

We also purchased our pool at Big Lots, with similar results. We purchased the 14'x36" metal frame pool, it came with the SFS600 pump assembly rather than the SFS1000 which is recommended by Polygroup.

I had a friend purchase the exact same pool from a different retailer for about the same price. Her pool included a cover,SFS1000 pump, skimmer, vacuum, filters, everything to get started with the pool season. I say the blame must go to Big Lots, they modify their shipments and orders to make the public believe they are getting a better deal when in fact they are meerly ripping us off.

I, for one, will not be patronizing Big Lots from this point forward.
