This is another stealership issue.  I noticed another poster had the same problem with their battery and Power Nissan Tempe.  I am not the owner of the vehicle, its my cousins.  I got involved as I was the lucky person to assist her with getting a new battery as she was leary of being screwed with by parts/service departments/parts stores etc.  She wanted to goto Autozone for a new battery for her 07 Nissan Versa.  I of course asked why are'nt you taking it to the dealer its got to be covered by some sort of warranty.  She stated she did goto the dealer but was told it would be $80 for a new battery.  I asked why and she did not know.  That when she voiced her concern to the service dept re: the cost they told her that they did the battery test for free.

C'mon guys do you charge to check the air in tires as well?  A battery load test is really simple and involves hooking up 2 cables and turning the machine on.  Autozone does this for free.  Anyway I looked in the owners manual and it stated a battery between the age of 36-48 months or something to that affect fell into the 50% pro rated range.  And that installation would be covered if that battery was purchased from Nissan.  Well hello its the one that came with the car.  I was unable to find the cost of a new Nissan parts dept. battery on the web but would be surprised if they were $160 bucks.  $80 would be 50% of the cost which is nuts.  They did try to sell her new tires which are getting there for sure but good for her she declined.  I also educated her about stealerships and how they get off on getting over on customers with overpriced repairs!!!!!

I contacted Nissan customer service today and stand corrected, there is only a 12mo/12k warranty on the battery for free replacement, 12-24mo 12k-24k, 50% and 24mo-36 mo, 24k-36k is a 25% pro rated cost.  I dont have the manual in front of me but apparently at the top of the battery page the replacement batterys are the only ones with the 84 mo warranty not what comes from the factory.  Seems lame to me that a 3/36 battery is put in when new but thats how it is.
