We had a blatant sexual harrassment case involving my wife. When we first contacted Pre-Paid legal and talked to their so-called attorneys, we were told we definitely had a very good case. So we joined up to the tune of $39.95 a month. When it came down to it we were told there was nothing they could do because of the "Burden of Proof" involved in the case. These idiots will only take on a case if they know they will absolutely win it so there win/loss ratio is wonderful. If you want to waste your money, time, and efforts join these idiots and have fun.

Pre-Paid Legal NOT a rip off!!

You have a complaint agains the law firm NOT Pre-Paid Legal. Get your facts straight before you start gripping.

You do have the "burden of proof" issue and even if you do have a case it may not hold up in court. The person who told you that you had a case was mostlikely NOT a lawyer and there fore had no right to make such a statement and you should have know not to take their word for it sinc ethey were not legal counsel.

You are just griping about getting a quality service and not being able to sue it for that particular issue.

Weird

#7Consumer Suggestion

The examples given by both the OP and the one rebuttal are just weird. In both cases, they are both facing legal problems so both of them go out and JOIN PPL BEFORE they take some kind of legal action. How strange is that? I ought to know. Years ago, a gal I know talked me into joining PPL when it was like $24.95 per month. To me it was like joining one of those discount medical plans where you get a discount on certain doctors appointments and discounts on meds and eyeglass scripts. If you had anything major, you were out of luck. Included in your "membership" was one hour "free" legal representation, "free" legal advise, you know what they say about "free" advise and maybe a will. After a year of paying $24.95 per month, it would have been about the same to pay a "real" attorney to do what I needed done if not a little cheaper AND it pays to know and have your OWN attorney who knows you personally, locally. I have MY attorney's card in my wallet with his cell phone number on it. IF I ever need him, he's available, at a moment's notice.

Rebuttel to negative comments about Pre Paid Legal

I am a consumer of Pre Paid Legal, joined when I had a legal issue and could not afford an attorney to represent me. Here is my story.

I worked for a "nation wide auto club" in the Insurance department. I had worked for this company for 4 years. Worked my tail off from a CSR to an Insurance Agent. My first year the entire CSR department either quit or was promoted leaving me to handle all calls coming in for insurance service on their 800 #. Remember this is a nation wide company but insurance is state to state so I handled my state of residence. Most days I worked from 8 am to 9 - 9:30 pm to cover the work load ... because everyone either quit or was promoted and they couldn't find competent help so the help they hired kept quiting. It was very stressfull. My first raise was a measly $1 after a year.

After 3 years I finally got the position I was looking for and was an Insurance Agent for this company. I wrote $40,000 to $60,000 of new business premium a month for them. I was close to being a million dollar producer. At 11 1/2 months I decided I'd had enough. My reputation with the underwriters was more important to me then throwing applications at a wall to see if they stick. I wasn't going to put a client in a position where they're new policy cancelled for underwriting reasons. Company management got greedy and decided they wanted me to write everything that came across my phone or desk. By the way, many insurance agents do this and it does harm the consumer.

I gave 2 week notice at 11 1/2 months (with the company at this point 3 years 11.5 months) after the first week of my notice was asked to leave because they were afraid I wouldn't take care of the customer.

The day I was suppose to receive my last pay check in the mail I was shocked to find instead I'd been sent a letter from the company lawyer delived via Fed Ex advising me they would be sueing. Grounds for sueing: I'd been accused of downloading the entire client list from their network server. I had 3 days to return all copies of the file down load or they would sue for breach of contract.

My heart sank, this was a blaten lie but how could I prove something I'd never done. I had absolutely nothing to return since I had not downloaded anything. I couldn't have even if I wanted to, I have no idea how to download from a server, I can't even download anything from my personal PC or laptop to disk.

I began calling agents I knew that had left the company in the last 1 to 2 years. I found 7. All of them had received the same letter instead of their last pay check. All had to hire attorneys and one ended up in court, of which I have no idea what the outcome was.

I couldn't afford an attorney. Thru a series of web searches I found a Pre Paid Legal rep that sold me a membership on a Sunday. Monday I was talking with a Pre Paid Legal attorney.

The outcome of my issue was possitive. Pre Paid advised me to call the hireing manager and advise her I would not be responding to the allegations but my attorney would be in contact.

Pre Paid Legal sent them a letter advising them they had X number of days to provide them with proof of my wrong doing and to release my last check immediately or futher action would be taken with the labor board.

This "Nation Wide" company dropped everything.

I realize not everyone is happy with there Pre Paid Legal service. Things have also changed and I would not be covered today for this if I'd purchased the membership after the fact. But, this is just like any other insurance plan. Your auto insurance won't cover an accident that happed the day before you bought the policy. Insurance has to be inforce prior to the claim. Just like insurance, this plan doesn't cover everything either.

But when you think about what the entire plan does cover a member still saves thousands of dollars.

You didn't provide much amplifying information to say why they didn't want to take your case. Also why did you call ask if they would take your case and then sign up?

I am going to sign up this week for this service because it is like having car insurance or renter's insurance. I have used my car insurance in the past year and they screwed me pretty good so I changed carriers. My renter's insurance I am pretty comfortable with, but I am sure that I would have to fight with them tooth and nail should I get robbed or flooded out or something crazy like that.

Pre-Paid Legal Services in my book is a good thing to have in your back pocket vice not having it at all.

From the sounds of it, you didn't do your homework, you called and they said "Yeah we will take your case" and you jumped on it because it was easy and $40.00. I am sure this falls under Title 4 of PPL and you only get a 25% discount on the fees. But don't accept the first thing you get. It is your right to search for a good attorney just like it is your right to search for the best car insurance in your opinion.

Take care and good luck.
