The electric eye on the garage door stopped working, then about a month later the second door did the same thing so...I called these folks for a service tech to come out and replace these parts.

When the tech got here, he did a song and dance about the year make and model of the currently installed garage door openers, and how the NEW ones he just happened to have in the truck were $900.00

I explained that I really was not able to afford such an expense and he dropped the price by $100.00 bucks and I declined asking that he set about replacing the thing that was actaully wrong with these doors, and he gave an estimate that was $10.00 dollars short of the $139.00 that Sears gets for completely new units!

I told the tech that I thought that the charges were price nothing gouging given the fact that the parts are installed with a wing nut and a screw and that the wires plug in like phone jack, and I sent an unanswered email to their office.

He then made demand for the $69.00 service charge just for coming out which I paid and told him that I would certainly not be using their service after all.

Precision Garage Door of Wayne in this instance never intended to repair these doors, their intent was to convince customers in to spending nearly one thousand dollars instead of replacing the eyes at $31.00 dollars a pair from Amazon, to Star Doors.com and many, many other sellers, and charging labor computed per door for the same visit.

They made their service charge at the expense of their reputation so far as I am concerned.

What was the $130 quote?

Sounds like you didn't do that well, given that the service call was $70 and the parts were $60.  That's what they were quoting to repair the things in the first place.  While the sales pitch might have been a bit out of place, it doesn't sound like they did anything particularly unreasonable.  You have to realize that it costs a considerable amount of money to send someone out on a service call, and that they are not going to work for free.  Next time, I would suggest checking if the repair actually requires professional help before calling someone out -- it is always MUCH cheaper to do things yourself.  For example, changing the brake pads on your car costs about $30 if you do it yourself; a shop would charge around $400 for the same service.

I unpacked two new sets of electric eyes and it took about ten minutes per door to install and for a grand total of $63.00 dollars delivered, the doors are working just fine, any one looking to find an honest service should not deal with Precision Garage Door of Wayne, NJ in my opinion.

What I wanted was a repairman, not a commissioned salesman
