Preferred Home Inc Wouldn't fix leak in my basement of brand new home with year warranty. Janesville, Wisconsin
I purchased a brand new home from Preferred Homes of Janesville, WI last September with a year warranty included.
Last May after a storm I had leaking going on in my basement. I called the owner Bill Bohn to tell him of the problem. He did come over to check it and was not nice about it at all. He would not work with me on a time that would not make me have to take time off work but instead a time that worked best for him.
He did at that time have an employee caulk around the cement stoop where the leaking was taking place.
A few days later while spraying off my sidewalk and cement stoop I discovered that there was leaking in the basement again at the same spot.
When talking to Bill about the problem he was very rude to me. Told me I couldn't be spraying water on the stoop that it wasn't water proof. We had a heated discussion in which he actually laughed at me.
The next day he left me a message stating he would be sending an employee over to place J trim around the siding that meets with the cement.
That did not take care of the problem either.
When I told Bill this he informed me once again that I could not spray water on the stoop and that there was nothing more he could do.
At that time I had another builder come over to look at the problem and he informed me that the stoop needed to be removed to find out what the problem was and replaced.
I also contacted the Southern Wisconsin Builders Association and talked with Carol who informed me that they have had alot of complaints about this company. That Bill no longer belonged to the Association because he was not going to belong to any organization that was going to tell him what to do.
I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and they did not get a response from Bill.
I had Badger Basement from Madison, WI come in and they said they couldn't do anything because it was a foundation issue. He added that if the issue wasn't fixed that the wood would rot and the house would sink in.
I have talked with neighbors who had him as their builder and they have had problems with him fixing things for them as well. When he does do any fixing it is always just a temporary solution and a cheap way of doing it.
My year warranty is up the 2nd of September and I need this problem taken care of. I can't get any where with this man. I want the problem fixed or for him to buy my house back.
