In late October of 2005 I contacted Premix & Precast Concrete, Inc of Barbados about getting a concrete floor poured on a house in Barbados.

Their sales person came to the site took many measurements and quoted a firm price. I purchased/wrote a certified check for the full amount and presented it to the company. The full amount had to be paid before any work could begin.

There was no mention or discussion of an estimate of any kind. The day the floor was to be poured one of their supervisors visited the site to double check the measurments and determined readyness. All was fine and ready to go.

The floor was poured, the only problem was some wastage of concrete on the steps. By the way, the work was conducted by employees of Premis and Precast Concrete. No more working for me had a role in the concrete pouring.

The following day I received a call from a Premix & Precast office person indicating that I owed an additional $2100 (which amounted to about 25% more money) because they sent too much concrete.

My response to the company was that I paid their firm price in full and in good faith before the job was started.I met with one of the company's managers and we could not resolve the issue. I then filed a complaint with Barbados' consumer protect organization, however Consumer protection there moved very slowly and according to them, the statue expired.

Management of the Premix & PreCast company changed and 18 months after completion of the job and full payment, I received a request for the additional $2100.

I just want to warn anyone who might plan to build or require concrete work in Barbados to be very careful in dealing with Premix & Precast Concrete company and they may want to use the services of another company in the industry.
