Buyers Beware

I purchased what I thought was a quality mobile home from Prestige Mobile Homes in Inverness, Florida. Their home office is in Ocala Florida. (Nobility Homes)

In the beginning everything went smoothly. All that changed, the day I went to sign the papers for the home. Suddenly, my interest rate had jumped up from what was originally quoted and the Manager had no record of the interest rate which I said I was quoted. Luckily I did.

I ordered a model from their lot which I found appealing, yet when the home was delivered, It resembled a 24x48 foot SHED.
There were no shutters, no glass door, nothing cosmetic that was on the model homes on their lot. It was very plain and cheap looking.

Upon further inspection, when entering the home, I noticed that the carpet was an absolute joke. I couldn't help but laugh, even though I was disgusted. The carpet, (if that's what they call it) had literally 1/4 inch gaps between each row of fibers.
I actually took a dime out of my pocket and could lay it between the fibers in the carpet onto the mat.

As if that wasn't enough, I noticed that the cabinets throughout the home, which I paid to be upgraded to all wood, were presboard. All of them! I got right on the phone and complained. Ken Warnke, the manager, told me he would contact the factory but that the only thing to be replaced would be the cabinet doors. That's funny. I was told that the upgraded cabinets were WOOD! Why would I pay for cheap cabinets with wooden doors. This makes no sense to me.

The ceiling stripping throughout the home did not line up where the two halves were put together. Some being as much as an inch apart, And the molding over the top of the back door slanted down at an angle making the back door appear crooked. Maybe it was?

The linoleum in the bathrooms was not even glued to the floor so it was like walking on a bubble. Just stapled or nailed around the edges. Awful!

Upon inspecting the outside again, I noticed that the roof looked lumpy and their seemed to be dips in between the trusses. This home was clearly not the quality that I had observed in the models.

After reviewing the problems with the home, I decided that there were too many things wrong with the home that I could see and was terrified of the things that I coulnd't see. I thought, if I can notice these obvious problems at first glance, what else is wrong with the home that I won't find out until too late.

I contacted Prestige Homes and told them to stop working. Not to finish the skirting or hook up the plumbing or electric.

I then contacted Mr Trexler, at their home office, Nobility Homes, in Ocala.

I told them that I was very disatisfied with the quality of the home and the lack of customer service on the part of Prestige Homes, and I wanted them to come and get their home before anything else could be done. I even offered to pay for it to be moved. Being that the home was never lived in, they could set it back on their lot and sell it to some other unsuspecting consumer.

I decided that I was probably going to lose much more money in the long run by fixing the defective home.

I was denied. Mr Trexler told me their was nothing he could do and that I could not send the home back.
I sent the home back.

I contacted a transport company that moves mobile homes and paid them to move the home to Prestige Homes in Inverness.
The mobile was on my lot less than 10 days.

They are now calling it a repossession which is going to go on my credit report.

The entire ordeal has been one of the worst experiences of my life.

I advise, anyone looking to buy a mobile home, don't buy from Prestige Homes or Nobility Homes. They will rip you off with a smile.

First of all. If you are going to slam me, you should get your facts straight.

The home that I chose was a 3 bedroom doublewide and priced at $39,000. (Where you got a price in the 20s is beyond me)
I chose to have the 2 bedrooms at one end of the home made into one master bedroom. This, I was told, was no big deal.

As far as having a similar model to compare to:
Yes I did, and the home which was delivered to me was nowhere near the quality as the home which I saw on the lot.

When the home was delivered to the site, I did call, and I did complain, but no one offered to "INSPECT THE ALLEGED DEFECTS".
Mr. Trexler told me in so many words: You've signed the papers, it's yours! Not once did he try to make me happy or offer to change anything. He gave me the impression that he could care less.

By the way:
I spent months calling Prestige/Nobility. Now known as no-ability. And your name NEVER came up. Who are you? Where were you when I needed help? Have YOU looked at the mobile? I saw as of last week it was still for sale. After all this time its still there! I wonder why?

I suggest everyone go to the Inverness office and look at this home before making a decision to buy from no-ability! Its easy to find just look for the cream colored one that looks like a big SHED.

Regards

Prestige Homes is the Victim

Tuesday McCrannie claims that she was ripped off
by Prestige Mobile Homes and Nobility Homes when
it truely was the other way around.

Ms. McCrannie set a very low budget for a new mobile home. What she ordered was a custom built "low- end" two bedroom home, priced in the 20's (the price of a cheap new car). She had access to all the samples and a similar model home to compare to.

Prestige Homes (seller) and Nobility Homes
(builder) built her this home, after she signed
the drawing for the floor-plan and signed the
materials specification sheet, on a $500 deposit.

Prestige Homes then paid Nobility Homes for the
home and delivered it to the customer's job site
After the DOUBLEWIDE home was delivered and set up
Ms. McCrannie called Prestige to say she was
unhappy about the quality of the home, then
REFUSED TO ALLOW ANYONE ACCESS TO INSPECT THE
ALLEGED DEFECTS.

Prestige spent thousands of dollars to build, deliver, and set up this home, only to be told by the customer that they were unhappy with the home and rather than have these alleged defects inspected and repaired, if necessary, that the customer was going to pay another company to tear down the home and ship it to the seller (Prestige).

When the home arrived at Prestige, a team of
servicemen and management went over the home
with a fine tooth comb. Yes, there were a few
cosmetic errors that were easily repaired. No,
nothing was built any different than what was
ordered by Ms. McCrannie.

Prestige and Nobility will never know the real reason why Ms. McCrannie changed her mind about the home. But one thing is certain, THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE HOME. By the way, this home is available at Prestige Homes in Inverness, Fl. at a DEEP DISCOUNT.

I was completely floored, that Mr Trexler actually thinks I would be willing to give them even more money

Update

Today, April 15th 2002, weeks after I returned the home, I recieved a phone call at work from Mr Trexler at Nobility Homes in Ocala.

He told me that he had spoken to the finance company and they wanted to know how this problem was going to be resolved and wanted to know if I was planning on making additional payments.

I seriously doubt that these words were coming from the finance company, as I have already sent them a registered letter, notifying them of my intent to halt payments and why.

Mr Trexler continued to tell me how bad this was going to look on my credit if it were not resolved and asked if I would be willing to make a settlement payment to the finance company to keep it off my credit report.

I was completely floored, that Mr Trexler actually thinks I would be willing to give them even more money. Why should I be settling with them? I am the one who got ripped off. I told him absolutely not and ended the conversation.
