Complaint Review: Prilosec

Prilosec was used to slow down what was thought to be an acid reflux reaction. Instead for two months it caused extreme gastritis. Knotting in my stomach, pain, gnawing and a completely nervous agitated state. I was unable to drive and went by ambulence to a hospital twice withing hours of taking it.

I thought it wasn't strong enough for what began escalating as soon as I began taking it. Research online was hard to do, but there are boards of people that went to emergency rooms from nervousness for the first time in their lives. It affects some people very severely and is over prescribed.

Physicians do not follow up and not one doctor helped me realize the severe problems were coincident with beginning prilosec. Prilosec OTC is used for reflux, which can be handled by diet and eating habits. It is used for peptic ulcers which it is published can be handled by antibiotics in a week in some cases longer in others.

Either way it is a mass marketing of a proton pump inhibitor to stop acid, which we NEED to digest food. Bland diet, aloe vera and coconut water, no caffeine or alchohol, eating 3 hours before bed, lots of small meals during the day, and lots of sleep can help permenantly cure, sometimes takes months, or years to be fully back. 

PPI's can cause breaking bones, nervous system reactions and more. The warnings are not strong enough. THE PPI (Proton pump inhibitor) biz is big business and can help mask symptoms for some when diet and lifestyle changes are needed, and it can worsen the health and does of many.

I googled "prilosec and anxiety" and found a ton of people with horrible reactions similar to mine. It was textbook.  Here is one link if they can publish... (((link redacted))) Either way, it is frightening, I saw online parents discussing giving this poison to babies! for collic! The FDA needs to warn people sufficiently.
