I bought a 2005 Lincoln Aviator from Prince Frederick Ford one evening last month, got it home and found that most of the electronics did not work and in the bright light of day found that the steering wheel, stereo cover and gear shift looked atleast 10 years old.

The a/c did not work, the seats didnt cool, i couldnt adjust my side mirrors (another electronic problem), the reverse sensor didn't work, the breaks squeaked, and i detected the bitter and very distinctive smell of animal urine.

Upon further inspection I found the driver side seatbelt was pure filth from top to bottom, there was a big red stain on the floor between the back seats, a purple stain in the very back and many, many scratch marks on the inside back door. perfect.

Obviously this vehicle is not the one for me.

Within 48 hours I return the truck and speak to Tony the Finance Manager. He appears sympathetic to my dilema and agrees to find me a replacement truck a.s.a.p.

Its been 45 days. I've called countless times where I'm repeatedly placed on hold by Pam the Receptionist for 15 to 20 minute intervals. No one ever picks up. No one ever returns my calls.

I've gone in person 5 times. On Saturday Tony in Finance offered to sell me a 2005 Navigator (the mirrors didnt work and the inside plastic stuff on the door was falling off) for $33,000 (its currently listed on the internet for $29,000). Thats on top of a $900.00 depriciation fee he wants to charge me for returning the Aviator. That I've driven once.

Yesterday, Mike Lewis tells me the owner of Prince Frederick Ford, Thomas Badman, said he'll return $5,000 of the $10,000 I put down and he'll take the Aviator back.

They will not fix the Aviator, they will not find me a replacement vehicle and if I dont accept half of my deposit back as compensation..I can keep the Aviator and still have nothing to drive!!

This cant be legal, can it??

I'M BEING BLACKMAILED BY PRINCE FREDERICK FORD!!

Thank you for your concern Robert and in response to your comments I'd like to say that the truck was in fine condition on the outside, unfortunately, after being told by the sales boy that the vehicle was in mint and perfect condition, my husband and I test drove at night with the windows down & the radio on.

We didnt see in what terrible shape the interior was in, it was dark out. We didnt hear the breaks squeaking, we had the radio on (the speakers actually work) and we didnt immediately detect the urine smell. Its not something I would have been looking for. Its the first time i've actually smelled animal urine in a vehicle to be honest.

I have been buying Ford and Lincoln vehicles for 15 years, therefore I had no reason not to trust that Prince Frederick Ford would sell me a 2005 vehicle that they had not already inspected (& if need be repaired) before they placed it on their lot for resale.

I returned the vehicle within 48 hours for repair and requested that the cosmetic issues on the inside be addressed as well.

I was informed by Tony in Finance that the owner, Robert Badman, was not willing to spend the money it would take to repair, or if necessary replace, the parts with issues on the inside of the vehicle.

Again I must reiterate that the vehicle should never have been given the Prince Frederick Ford stamp of approval and placed on the lot for sale.

Remember, I paid $29,000 and some change for this truck. I wasnt buying a "fixer upper". I am not a mechanic.

I trusted Prince Frederick Ford to sell me a vehicle that I could drive from point A to point B in without cause for worry, alarm or embarrassment. I didnt buy a 1998 Ford Taurus Robert, I bought a 2005 Lincoln Aviator.

Tony in Finance instructed me to select another vehicle. He offered two to choose from, both older models and unacceptable.

I waited. and waited. and waited. No one would return my calls. I made several one hour trips to Prince Frederick Ford in an effort to resolve the situation but to no avail.

I finally, after 45 days, lost my patience with the dealership doing absolutely nothing to help me with this situation. I requested that my $10,000 down payment be returned to me so that I may purchase a vehicle elsewhere.

Many, many phone calls and visits in person later, again with no solution, I offered to let the dealership keep $3,000 & give me back $7,000 (which was painful enough given I'd only driven the vehicle once to the airport where it was left in a secured parking area for a week).

Prince Frederick Ford came back with a counter offer of giving me back $5,000 of my $10,000 down payment for driving a vehicle that should never have been on their lot to begin with, one time. I'll say that again..one time.

We purchased a 2007 Ford GT Mustang off the showroom floor for $38,000 (ish) at the same time...meaning we spent a whole lotta money at Prince Frederick Ford. I had no reason to doubt the ethics of this establishment. Until now.

I have been disrespected, humiliated and taken advantage of by these people. Its not like I went to Eastern Motors where your jobs your credit, I went to Prince Frederick Ford because I thought I'd be dealing with upstanding, honest, and trustworthy professionals.

Boy was I wrong.

In any case you'll have to excuse me now. I too have customers to assist and unlike some people, I care about mine.

What about the Factory Warranty?

#6Consumer Suggestion

I can understand your frustration with non working equipment. I bought a used 2005 Navigator and had several electronic problems. I also had paint peel off of the back bumper while at a car wash. All I did was call the service dept. at the dealership I purchased the vehicle from and set up a time to drop it off. Since the vehicle had a 4 year or 50,000 mile bumper to bumper factory warranty, I was not charged a dime for the repairs, and even was provided a rental car at no charge.

When I received the vehicle back, the electronic dash was fixed, The vehicle would no longer just "die" for no reason, the back bumper was repainted, several pieces of rubber molding were replaced due to a whistling noise while driving at highway speeds, and they even noticed the floor mats were in bad shape and just thru in new ones (well they looked new maybe slightly used?) I would suggest taking the vehicle in to the service dept. where you purchased it and if the vehicle milage is not over 50,000 they should cover all of your issues (except stains, brakes, inside door scratchs, and smells) under the factory warranty.

If your nice and ask the dealership, they might even run the vehicle thru make ready and shampoo the carpets, clean the interior to try to remove the stains, pet oders, clean the steering wheel, shifter, and radio cover. Good luck!!

Every one of your issues with this vehicle would have been immediately apparent the instant you actually sat in it.

To drive, you have to adjust the mirrors, yet you obviously didn't. The stains, smells, and the interior condition? Same again, instantly noticeable as soon as you got in the vehicle.

I'll assume the dealership sold it "As Is", and that's why they won't take it back and refund all of your money. I'll also assume(rightly so) you failed to actually test drive this truck prior to purchase. A simple walk around, test drive, and inspection by an independent mechanic would have been enough to end your purchase of this truck.

Three Questions

#6Consumer Comment

Did you look at the vehicle before you bought it? Did you sit in the vehicle before you bought it? Did you test drive it before you bought it? Lord, did you even SEE the vehicle before you bought it? I mean if you got into the vehicle and touched the steering wheel, you would have seen the condition of the steering wheel and everybody who gets into a vehicle, the first thing they do is turn on the radio to see if it works, so you would have had to touch the stereo cover and if you moved the vehicle, you would have put your hand on the gear shift lever. Next, most people turn on the a/c to see if IT works. If the vehicle moved, you would have had to use the breaks and they should have squealed then. IF you sat in the vehicle you would have smelled the "very distinct smell of animal urine". And so on and so forth. I don't think you're "being blackmailed" at all. It's completely legal. And I hate car dealers.
