Automax sales training is a scam and the dealers are in on it especially Priority Toyota at 2000 Walthal Center Drive Chester Va. 23834 phone 804-796-1800. Owner Dave Perno and General Manager Steve Cochrane is letting them use there conference room for the classes and knows Automax is charging MONEY to the students. They also have another another location at 910 Colonial Heights Boulavard and several in Cheasapeake and Virginia Beach. They recently ran this ad in the Richmond paper and on Monster. This is a cookie cutter ad. You can find this ad in papers all over the country and all over Monster.com . Check it out for yourself just go to Monster and search Automax Sales Training. Priority Toyota Scion of Richmond ran this same SCAM back in December of 2006 as well so this is not their first time at it. The ads run in the paper and on Monster and are quickly removed after the dates have passed to cover there tracks. The ad below was cut and pasted directly from Monster. Read my entire update and see how the SCAM just goes on and on and on. I have the proof in the pudding and on paper so NO REBUTTALS CAN OVERCOME ACTUAL PROOF THAT YOU CAN RESEARCH FOR YOURSELF.
A guy named Bob Stevens(Robert F Stevens) was the Automax rep at this one. His Direct cell number is 609-377-1788. He wanted me to pay him directly for this training. Right to his Paypal account which is autovisionsalestraining@comcast.net. I caught a glimpse of his Paypal debit card in his wallet when he gave me change for a five. He's slick be carefull. Priority Toyota Scion of Richmond uses automax to train their sales people unehtical sales tactics in the name of profit. They have an incredibly high turnover rate for their sales staff. Both the owner Dave Perno and general sales manager Steve Cochrane are aware and promote the use of Bait and Switch as well as the Monty split and several other questionable sales tricks to sell cars and increase their profit margins. They even go as far as moving the profit from the front end of the sale to the back end to lower the commisions paid to their sales people. They expect new salesmen to work there first 30 days for free and sell a minimum of 6 new cars at an average profit of $2000 per car in their first 15 days on the sales floor. Then at the end of 4 weeks of 12 hour days they will only pay you $1320 before taxes and ZERO comission on the cars you sold. This is not even minimum wage it should be illegal. No wonder they have such a high turnover rate! They do not care because they make more profit off new sales people who quit after a short time. They just train some more and keep going. They prey on the uneducated and unemployed to do their dirty work. If this is how they treat their employees imagine how they treat their customers. In my brief time there I saw numerous irritated customers some screaming and yelling at Steve Cochran personally. This is a bad place to work and an even worse place to buy a car. Pass this story on word of mouth counts and please do not buy a car here. The only way to let them know the public won't stand for this mistreatment is to hit them in their wallet.........

Hundreds of Billions of dollars in TAXPAYER'S money (TARP) was needed to prevent another Depression in the USA. Most of that money was injected into Wall Street banks and other failing companies, like General Motors, Chrysler, AIG, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, General Electric, and a host of others.

The dealer(s) are actually the ones paying the recruiting company "AutoMax". How they do this is they have the employee front the money and then give it back to them in 90 days. See, if the dealer paid the recruiter upfront then there would be no reason for the employee to "stick it out" through the first couple of weeks when it is the toughest. I was hired this way with having a monetary investment in my future success. I called it "tough love". Dangling that $500 dollar carrot in front of my nose for the first couple of months to keep me from wanting to quit. This is not a get rich quick job and my first
3 weeks in the biz I hadn't sold a car and wanted to quit but stuck it out to get my $500 back and the rest was history. I've made over a million dollars selling cars and I never would have of if it wasn't done this way (which has been going on in the car biz for over 40 years). If the dealer pays upfront and someone quits in the first week or two, then what did the dealer get out of it?
If someone pays the $500, stays 90 days and then gets it back, then what are they out? Nothing! You are not paying to get a job and you are not paying for training. The dealer is, just 90 days later back to you. What you are doing is showing your loyalty to the business that you are fronting the dealers money for the recruiting, advertising, interviewing, training, and placement. If you would of paid your $500 and stuck it out you would have found out that even if the "host" dealer
didn't hire you that the recruiter/trainer would have gotten you a job at a different dealer with all of the same stipulations. Why should a dealer take the risk that you might "flake out" on them after they paid thousands of dollars for the newspaper ads, online ads, recruiters expenses, etc. to have you quit on them because you aren't selling 10 cars your first week in the biz and then they have to rerun all of the ads all over again to do it again?! They would rather have these job
fairs once a year instead of every couple of weeks because they are very expensive and they want the "committed" person working for them. If they are going to pay for your drivers license test, drug test, background check, sales license, uniforms, etc. then they want you to stay because it really isn't fair for them to give you a chance when you have no experience. So many people say that they are a "man of their word" only to quit, the way to prove it is that money
talks. Put yourself in the dealers shoes and realize why this is the only effective way to insure that they retain their employees, basically an "insurance retainer" that you will still be working there, plus what if another dealer see's the ad and sends their sales staff there for free training? Since the bottom line is that you get all of your money back as long as you don't "flake out" on them, then essentially it is COSTING YOU NOTHING!! NOT A CENT!! Shame on you that you didn't see it through to the end and got a job at one of the dealerships and made the money that I and my co-workers have made in a great industry and easy job. FD

Your "report" to me just seems like a load of whiney crap. I don't cant understand how you can get off complaining of a "scam" when you paid for training. The car business is hard work. Obviously you didn't have the determination to sell the standards that Dave and Steve set out for you on the floor. Try having the "8 or the gate speech" every week. Now, you paid for training.... i don't understand how you can complain about something that is proven to earn you more money.
As for your shot at my former employer, stating Priority Toyota/Scion uses "unethical sales tactics in the name of profit" is just total crap. The motto of the priority autogroup is to sell cars morally and ethically. The fact that Dave left nothern virginia because of the unethical treatment of workers as well as customers shows that he would only do business morally. You signed a contract for the "zero" profit, which isn't zero. YOU HAVE A MINIMUM COMMISSION OF atleast $100 a car. As for the yelling and screaming you mention, you have no earthly idea what they were talking about in steve's office. You cannot please 100% of customers, but steve would make whatever situation right. Your ignorance to this situation is hillarious to me, I couldn't help but chuckle at the fact that you went public with something that you hadn't completed research on. Please do more research about someone before trying to rag on the company and it's employees. Go apply for another dealership, you wont make nearly the money, nor will you have such a positive learning experience, or the great treatment by managers. I'm sorry you had a bad experience with Priority, but you really should look up info on Alex Hafer, now THAT GUY is a terrible person to work for.

You see, all it takes is a little effort and you can do it! Here is a great idea. You and I know that there is a problem with illegal drugs at many car dealerships. If the person who goes undercover were able to purchase drugs from an employee at the dealership and it were captured on video, you'd have a story fit for National T.V.!
Also, if the person that went undercover were a female, we KNOW that the undercover video would capture some type of sexual harassment by a Manager at the Dealership! Just think, drugs & sexual harassment caught on video at a Car Dealership! Now we have a story fit for T.V.!!!
Did you read on the internet last year about the $190 MILLION Sexual Harassment Suit filed by an Executive Assistant at Toyota's New York Corporate offices? I made a copy of it off of the internet and will look through my files I have against Toyota this weekend. I think you can still 'Google' the story and get it! The man second in charge of Toyota in the USA had other things in mind when he went on walks in Central Park with his much younger assistant who was also Japanese. The whole world is becoming 'Americanized'! No wonder all the children are LOST!
But like I said, there is something called KARMA. Keep me updated. Also, you can rent undercover equipment and do your own Undercover Sting if you want. Once you have HARD EVIDENCE there is nothing that they can say!

Karl thank you for all your input and just to let you know I have gotten a local news station involved. They are interested in the story and are considering sending an undercover reporter through the training scam to expose it. I emailed every news station in town and only one responded with interest and after several emails and a meeting we have a plan. I will not reveal which station for fear Toyotas greatest spy (Thomas) will tip them off....
To further comment or your post I like you Karl and it seems we have both read a lot of the same material. If you poison your body it will fail you. if you poison your soul it will fail you. If you think the pursuit of happiness is money you are a lost sheep. Money is the root of all evil and todays corporations are in pursuit of your money at all cost. Publicly traded corps have only one legal obligation to produce a profit for their shareholders at any cost to the consumer. Your safety is not there concern only your wallet....The irony is the shareholders are also the very consumers that buy their products. We are killing ourselves in the name of the almighty dollar. Maybe we should reconsider what is almighty about the dollar and what is that pyramid with the eye on top of the back of the dollar bill anyway. I know but do you???????
I wouldn't want to leave Thomas out of this post. He would be so upset if I had forgoten him. Well as usual Thomas has posted his pompous know it all advice a day late and $300 short. Although Thomas is a relativley smart guy and his advice is not all that bad I feel that he has lost his way and needs to find his sheppard. Oh and one more thing Thomas even though you like to show off how much smarter you are than everyone else you should also be smart enough to realize that NO ONE LIKES A POMPOUS KNOW IT All JACK LEG

Steve, There is a similar Post to yours about the Training Company from a former sales rep on the DODGE page of this site. It is a National Epidemic! These same Training Companies were here in Denver too. They would collect money from the potential candidates after they built up their hopes of making big money as a salesperson.
Most of the candidates would put the $500 fee on their credit card. Like I said before, it's just a sign of the times. Scams are everywhere. Do not trust anyone when it comes to money!
I went to a cook-out last week and one of the people there told me about how her brother in Michigan is 'going under!' She told me that he has worked for years on the Ford Assembly Line where they make engines for their trucks. She said that they have been 'living off of his OVERTIME' . Guess what? NO MORE OVERTIME! This is one of the reasons that Michigan is in the top three states now for Foreclosures! It's just the tip of the iceberg! Nevada is also in the top three!
I predict that by sometime early in 2009 that the stock market takes that huge hit! After a full year of reality in 2008, the big collapse happens. There are homes all over Colorado with For Sale Signs that are not selling. A lot of them are the ones over $450,000. Divorce is out of control too! All of these people who thought that big homes and material things were the answer.
And something else that most did not think about, home prices are coming down and many people are now in the same situation that car buyers are in; NEGATIVE EQUITY situations, with their HOMES! People would rely on equity for College Money and other things, it's no longer there for many.
Also, Healthcare is a complete FRAUD. Prescription Drugs do not make people well. They never have and never will! They destroy people's lives but the Pharmaceutical Companies and their Advertising Agencies and the Doctors who prescribe them are all making a KILLING! It is all about the money! My girlfriend has been an ICU Nurse for 19 years. She knows what these prescription drugs are doing and so do the Doctors!
When we go to Holiday parties I ask these Doctors about Prescription Drugs and they agree that they do not make people well and none of these Doctors take Prescription Drugs! One of them said that if people would simply drink a half gallon of purified water every day it would eliminate 80% of all the problems that people have with their health issues. But guess what? People are addicted to Pepsi, Coke, Sprite, etc. Why? Advertising and Marketing!
If you don't do the things that make you sick in the first place, you won't get sick! It's that simple. Also, there is no such thing as a Hereditary Disease! The only thing that runs in families is STUPIDITY! If you smoke, prepare for cancer. If you drink too much, prepare for liver disease. If you sit around too much, prepare to be obese. Also, you can tell if someone is on Prescription Drugs; they are almost ALWAYS overweight and BLOATED. These drugs destroy the healthy environment in the digestive system and toxins start to back up and go in to the bloodstream. Also, these people do not ELIMINATE as they should. It is stuck inside them. You know what I'm referring to I hope? Remember that saying, ' you're full of ****'. Believe it or not, it's TRUE!

So Automax wants to charge you $300 to teach you how to sell cars? If they ACTUALLY TEACH you to be competent at selling cars, as well as the truth about being a car salesman, then it is a good deal at thrice that price.
I figured out MANY years ago that I did NOT want to be a car salesman. But this took some research and effort, while today one can use the internet to learn why car sales is an undesireable occupation far more easily. Perhaps that $300 makes this task even faster and easier.
Usually you are "supposed to learn to sell cars" by watching other car salesmen and being "guided" by the sales manager. Of course, you won't spend $300 this way but you could also starve to death.
Car sales is a TERRIBLE way to earn a living: you face long hours in split shifts, you receive verbal abuse, and the house is always finding ways to structure the sale to minimize your comission. Your "free time" is so jumbled and chopped up that you can only socialize with other car salesmen.
You will be caught between the customer and the house, and the house never looses. This means only the customer and/or the salesman will loose. And often, BOTH the customer and the salesman will loose.
And believe it or not, a few customers are really, really tricky. But you won't see any complaints from tricky car buyers on ROR.
Good job raising the Toyota name again and again, Karl. You do pique people's interest in Toyota. enough interest that people will be curious and go have a look for themselves. Toyota 'lookers' become Toyota 'buyers'!
Soon Toyota will replace GM as number one. Of course this will be eased by the modest pay the honcho and his minions at Toyota are paid when compared to the many, many millions the CEO and his minions at GM collect. Every dollar the GM executives put in their pockets is one less dollar for hiring more engineers, designers, and mathematicians, or one less dollar for purchasing higher quality materials to build their cars. The car buying public has noticed the gaping difference in product quality and reliability between GM and Toyota.
You see, Karl, there IS a revolution, the revolution that companies run by modestly paid executives will replace companies run by extremely highly paid executives. THis is because each car a car manufacturer sells will bring in only so much money as gross profit. This contest will be won by the companies that apportion MORE of those gross profit proceeds to product development and improvement while putting less into their exectutives' pockets. Hang around and watch the show.

Good job Steve! Do not give up. It just proves that Toyota Dealers are feeling the 'pinch' in this economy of ours that is based on LIES, DECEPTION, FRAUD, BREAKING CONSUMER PROTECTION LAWS, etc. etc.
Did you hear today that Countrywide Financial (the country's largest mortgage company is laying off employees and will most likely file for Bankruptcy soon)? It's just the tip of the iceberg! All of this means that car sales will slow dramatically in the coming months. All of those Managers who were making a good income will get exactly what they deserve.(smaller and smaller paychecks and eventually they will be filing for Bankruptcy and their wives will be filing for Divorce!)
If you want the News Stations to do a story, you can orchestrate an event like this: Hundreds of people (or thousands) demonstrating in front of a Toyota Dealership with Picket Signs! Some of the Picket Signs can direct consumers to this website so they can read AND Post complaints too. Anyone who was ripped-off by any car dealership would most likely join in this demonstration.
Just about every News Station in your town would want to cover an event like this because of the large amount of people gathered outside a Toyota Dealership. It might even get National Coverage if you had enough people and Picket Signs that were unique. The Picket Signs should capture the attention of those walking or driving by. Simple verbage on one side and maybe a Cartoon on the other side would be a good idea.
If a News Station had done a story prior to the event, you could direct the public to that website also, like the 9news.com website where you can type in ORNELAS and read the story and watch the video from 2005. You can also direct the public to another website like stopautofraud so the public can see the Dateline NBC Undercover Video from December 2003.
You see, the News Stations will report a story if the story is interesting enough to put on T.V. So, lots of people, picket signs, cartoons, hard proof, the ability to access video from 2003 & 2005, etc. would get your message across and at the same time it would create an awareness to others so they can make an intelligent decision before they visit a Toyota Dealership.
The public could learn so much about what is happening by coming to this GREAT WEBSITE called RIPOFFREPORT and we the people can become the News Reporters of the future. Just think, if people don't want to watch their News Stations because they only report the stories about Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Britney Spears, etc., they can come here and not only find out the TRUTH, but actually take part in doing their own story too!
You know, there were people who lived long ago that started reporting the News on their own and it was made into a big book. You can find that book in most people's homes and even in most Hotels and Motels. It's always right there next to the Yellow Pages. Someone said it's the Best Selling Book of all time- The Bible!

well to follow up on the story i got this email two days ago. apparrently they do not realize i already applied and went through their training program (well up to the point they ask for $300) i got a good laugh at this email i even considered showing up to see if my buddy Bob Stevens was teaching the class again but i did not get off work in time.. I thought there was a law the said a perspective employer had to keep my application on file for a set amount of time. it is obvious that automax and priority toyota of richmond regularly run this scam and both parties are aware of what is going on. i could not get the local news wwbt 12 an nbc affiliate to check this scam out and do a news story. i guess they ARE NOT 12 on your side as they claim. apparently the poor and unemployed getting scammed out of their last $300 of rent money is NOT NEWS. anyway i posted the email below read it for yourself and stay away from any car dealer that uses their training program and tell everyone you know!!!!!

Thanks for your support. I read and agree with the statements you have posted. I see you have done your research on the Toyota motor Corp as well. The public is being scammed in the name of the almighty dollar and we need to get the word out. It is a shame that the greed of majors corporations todays overcomes their comitment to the customers they serve. We all have the power to stop them but it's our money that is the only thing that will do the talking for us!!!

Good job Steve! Put as much info as you can on this website about how Toyota and their Dealer Network are FINANCIALLY INJURING everyone that they can! The Dealers are obviously feeling the 'pinch' from declining sales and declining profits and are now attacking potential New Hires. It's just a sign of the times.
Remember, events do not cause corporations to collapse. It's the OPINIONS of the events that trigger the collapse.( Harvard Business Professor). The time has come for the PEOPLE to speak out and harness the TRUTH!
