I was checking my credit card bill for the month and found a $19.95 charge from Privacy Matters (AP9*PMIDENTITY.COM). I have never had business with this company. I looked at my previous bills and found that this charge had been repeating each month for some time.

I called the company and was unable to reach an actual person to speak with, only automated systems. I went through their phone system and cancelled the service with them (which I never signed up for in the first place). I am still waiting for confirmation of the cancellation, as well as a reply from their website for my request for a refund for the charges.

Through looking at previous ripoff reports and other websites, I found that others had experienced similar unauthorized charges. In the cases I found it was after individuals had payed for services from Intelius. In each case, Intelius had apparently secretly signed them up at Privacy Matters without any mention.

I had indeed hired Intelius to run a background check earlier in the year and it was no surprise when I found that the charges from Privacy Matters began directly afterwards. Like those before me, I had never been informed about any additional monthy charges that I would be signed up for by using their services. I am still waiting for a reply from Intelius.

Through the site 'http://www.pmidentitycom-program.com/' I was able to find that both Intelius and Privacy Matters are a part of 'Adaptive Marketing LLC', a company out of Norwalk, Conn.

As I mentioned, I have at no time authorized the services of Privacy Matters. In fact, after discovering the charges and hunting down the company I was able to discover that while somehow an account had been created in my name, it had never been setup, and no services had ever been performed, despite the $19.95 per month charge.

I am currently filing with my credit card company to also dispute the charges as well.
