I was looking up a person's email address on Intelius.com and paid Intelius.com $2.95 for the address information. Apparently, they sent my credit card and other personal information on to PrivacyMatters.com who enrolled me in their monthly service (Privacy Matters Identity, which appears to have a separate website at PrivacyMattersIdentity.com) at $19.95 per month (a 7-day free trial after which it would automatically convert to a full membership). They did this without informing me or getting my authorization in any way. It was only by coincidence that I happened to see my bank statement and noticed the charge before the 7 days were up. I phoned them at the number given above (888-840-6301) and they claim to be refunding my money. I tried to get them to tell me how this happened and the representative kept changing the subject. Ironically, this company seems to be committing the exact sort of fraud they claim to be protecting people from.
