Company is a telemarketer selling magazine subscriptions. Tell you that the only charges for subscriptions is shipping and handling. $4.95 for each month considering you get one magazine per month, You do the math. Promises that you can cancel and get return of monies withdrawn from Credit Card. Nothing could be further from the truth. Told company that I wished to bring to the fore Federal Statute 226.15 which is buyers rescision.

This allows any telemarketed or home sale to be withdrawn within 72 hours. Claims that because they called Florida that they didn't count. My understanding is that Virginia is still in the US and is covered by Federal Statutes. Secondly, the telemarketer must regester in the State of Florida and pay a bond.

At the time of the agreement no registration was held in the State of Florida and no bond was posted. Even though they give incorrect 800 numbers to call back these are incorrect. The only way to reach them is to go on line and go to contact us. Unless you can find the correct 800 number which I did and was promptly told to stuff it. (I am paraphrasing this) They said they couldn't care less what I thought the charges would stand and that they were going to hang up.

I have filed with the Attorney's General US, Attorney's General State of Florida, CapitalOne Credit Card Company, Dept of agriculture, customer services, This is the department that registers telemarketers in Florida. I have had the charges reversed because the Credit Card Company sees the correctness of this line of thought. The Professional Readers Service has threatened to refile the charges. They will have service from the State of Florida Agriculture Dept of Customer Services. I am awaiting ruling from the Attorney's General US and Attorney's General State of Florida.

Don't be hustled into purchasing these magazines through their heavy handed business practices.

You have the wrong company involved in your complaint

#5REBUTTAL Owner of company

Tue, March 18, 2008

I am Susan Cook and our family has owned Professional Readers Service in Gray Court,South Carolina SINCE 1962. We are not affliated in any way with the company out in Charlottesville VA .,that has used the same name as our business to apparently do scams. We have filled out the appropriate paperwork with the Florida Attorney General's office stating these facts. We have NEVER done any type of telemarketing in our business. EVER. Until we began getting these calls from irrate customers of the other company that uses our name, we have never had any problems with customer complaints.

This other company, is located in Charlottesville, VA and we have found out is doing business as Magazine City as well. For someone to post our names and our business address as "ripping off millions" is more than hurtful. It is a lie. We have been the biggest victim in the thousands of people that have been hurt by this company in Charlottesville, VA. Our phones rang daily with irrate people thinking we were that other company.

The information I have on them is as follows:Professioal Readers Service 630 Peter Jefferson Pkwy, Suite 160, Charlottessville, VA 22911. Phone 434-817-1800 ext 214 Mrs. Faris. Note that Magazine City operates out of the same suite number.

STOP posting lies regarding our business. We have served the needs of schools and public libraries, as well as business in South Carolina and surrounding states since 1962 with an outstanding reputation. My father-in-law, Jack L. Cook established this business, and my husband Scott and I now own this business. You are posting lies about us. We have never done any telemarketing and we are not in any way associated with this company that has stolen our name. Why would you post thier information with our names and address? You know better. We already responded to your attorney general's office? Why are you defaming our character? We have never ripped off anyone. We demand that you post an apology to us. Please persue the company that is making us all victims and restore our good name. Very Sincerely, Susan Cook

Your Information is Not Accurate

#5Consumer Suggestion

Just thought I would let you know that if you were to check with the Virginia State Corporation Commission Clerk Information System which is public record and searchable at the following website www.scc.virginia.gov/division/clk/diracc.htm you will see that there has been no company since 03 listed in business records with the name of Professional Read anything.

The person who gave you the information either lied hoping you would try to locate them in Virginia or the company is not legally licensed to operate in Virginia. You could also try performing a search under the Cook identity, but I doubt you would find anything in Virginia. This system lists all business names (be they corporate or not/active or not) that have ever legally filed in Virginia.

If you don't find them in the list, they are not operating legally. Hope this information helps. If you were provided a Virginia address, since there is no company name on file, I would also submit it ti VA attorney general office if you haven't already. Good luck.

The representative I spoke with said that she was located in Virginia and that is the reason she felt that there was no law re-affirming the 72 hour buyers remorse. She told me the owner were Scott and Susan Clark and gave me the address to send this information to. I also responded via the internet e-mail and recieved a notice that the e-mail was opened. When I asked the 800 operator for the 800 number said she had a company in Virginia, was that the company I wanted to speak with. i checked the information via the internet and the 800 registry. If you are not the company then why is it that this was the address I got from the individual that responded. They had me listed as the individual that they called. I feel that the information I have on my end is correct. We will soon find out when I receive the letters back from the Attorney's General of USA and the Attorney's General of the State of Florida. The Agricultural department Consumer Affairs division also checked all posible variations to find out if they were in receipt of any paperwork on form 501 regarding telemarketing as well as the bond that was supposed to be posted.

If you have any sound information related to this issue I am certain that I will go through further investigations. At this time, you merely telling me that there is another company somewhere else that has the same name has no relivance unless you can establish that you are not the party to this problem.

I can reached through this site at any time and will make any appoloyg that is necessary if I maligned you in error. As of this time you are the only company I can find listed in Virginia and with the name Professional Readers Services. If there is another company located in Virginia with the same name I suggest you contact the bureau of Corporations to find out why there are two different companies located in the same state with the same corporate name or at least the same DBA.

Sincerely

Dear Fred,

I just wanted to share some information with you. The company that you are complaining about is located in South Carolina, not Charlottesville Va. There are a couple of companies called Professional Readers Service. The one located in Charlottesville VA does not use a $4.95 handling fee, however they are often mistaken for the Professional Readers Service in South Carolina.
