Complaint Review: Progressive Realty

In February of 2004 my husband and I look at a townhouse in Chicks Beach that was run by Progressive Realty. In order to move in they wanted $925 for the first months rent and $925 security deposit due that day. She said there was another person wanting it and whoever got the money to them first could have it. Well we couldn't afford that. So we paid $925 to hold the next townhouse coming available in May of 2004. Well due to my pregnancy I lost my job March 4(I'll be putting in a complaint for that too). We informed Ms. Phyllis Johnson the same week that we wouldn't be able to rent the the townhouse and wanted our money back. Keep in mind, we never signed a lease, nor did we even look at the other townhouse. She said that was fine but I would have to send a letter in writting stating we no longer wanted to rent it and that we wanted our money back. Well, I did. She said we would be rembursed our deposit once it was rented. I called her again in May only to be told it hadn't been rented and that our deposit would be used to cover the rent until it was rented out and that we would be rembursed what was left.

She says it wasn't rented out on till June and she now refused to remburse us any of our money. I find it hard to believe that she couldn't fine anyone to rent it for 3 months, when we were supposely competing for the first one. Besides that, it's located in Chicks Beach, 1/2 mile from the water where it's impossilbe to find something to rent because everyone else wants it too. We even had a lawyer notify her which she ignored. Since we didn't sign the lease or anything else, she has no right to hold our money. So here I was 7 months pregant and paying all my doctor bills out of pocket due to loosing my job, and struggling to pay all my other bills while she sets back pocketing my money. Seems to me they should atleast use common decency in their work. So renter beware of Progressive Realty and the townhouses they run on Bay Quarter Ct. of Chicks Beach. Your gonna get ripped off!
