We recently moved from Maryland to North Carolina, after getting three quotes, as advised to do we selected National Movers Network. I received a contract and a quote that seemed appropriate, and was not even the lowest bid I got, but they did talk the talk nicely so we went with them. Moving day arrived and as became the forte for this event. They were late. They, being Progressive Van lines, arrived at my house in a rental Penske truck to pick up our goods.

I was instructed that I needed to sign a blank check basically for packing and labor charges. When I tried to rebuff this claim he stated they could not begin until all paperwork was signed. At this point I had little choice as with everyone else we were due to be out of our house and into our new home in less than a weeks time. So I signed my life away and they started to pack my stuff up.

IT became apparent very early on that we were going to go over the estimated weight. It was so bad that they had to call out a second truck ( I have since learned that you never get an estimate on weight until someone comes to your house and looks at your stuff!!! I believe they under estimate your weight so that they can charge you more per lbs, or cubic feet in the end).

Anyways the packing fiasco went on for nearly 10 hours. I have moved many times, being ex military, and I had assumed a 6 hour pack out would have been appropriate for this house but obviously I was wrong. The three gentlemen who came barely spoke English and were less than gentle with our belongings. We held back several larger items and ALL the glass to our tables and such to move ourselves. Even with the removal of a stand up refrigerator and chest freezer we ended up some 3000 lbs over the estimate. I could have understood several hundred lbs or even 500 but 3000???? I was completely shell shocked by this. Now they had us good. They had our stuff in some warehouse in Va. They would be transferring our goods off one truck and onto another before delivery and there wasn't a d**n thing we

I spoke with Progressive ( or Supreme as their phone message says ) on a daily basis. They could give me no information. Everyday was the same story. Sorry ma'am our computers have not been updated, it will be done tonight or tomorrow morning. I was sure our stuff was gone! We did head out on the 25th Aug to our new home with the full knowledge that we would most likely be camping out there for what was turning to to be several weeks. But alas, the DRIVER, not the main company called me at 2pm on the 25th to inform he would be at my home at noon the following day, a day earlier than the first available day, I might add. I went into a panic. I managed to move closing up so that we could have the house etc. I still had no word from the moving company on how much over I was or how much the final bill would be. You see they want CASH. Cash? They want A lot of it too. Tell me who has access to 5000 in cash? I know we all ready ourselves for moves but this is insane. I had taken what available cash I had the previous from my bank in MD. That being the other problem, there is no branch down here so the most cash I could get would be the 400 limit that atm's put on my account per day. I immediately called the company back, ohh if you are ever in a recorded cycle and it tells you to enter the ext just randomly pick a 3 digit ext, you tend to get a real person and they will forward your call out of the loop and to a direct person. I spoke with Michelle, my random 3 digit ext person, who got me to the dispatch folks who again informed me that their computers were not updated and it would probably be 7 to 10 days before i could even Schedule a deliver of my goods. I laughed at her and said well they are arriving tomorrow and since you have no information I guess I owe them the original 70 bucks that was not paid in advance. I did manage to get a hold of the driver ( thank your caller id and cell phones ) and asked what total he had for us. His total was 4600 dollars in cash approx. I nearly choked on my own spit! I told him he better get in contact with his company and have them call me as this number was definitely NOT acceptable nor was it correct by any means. They had no record of my pay in advance to National Movers Network ( oh ya.. SCAM ARTIST).

Progressive did arrive the following day at 4Pm, they had called and said they were running late, of course. As they began to unpack I split the inventory list with a friend and we started to mark off every box and item that went by us. If something was missed we would send our Daughter in to chase them down and find the number for us. I think this shocked the movers a bit but they played nice with us.

I was okay for the first hour until the first damaged box came off the truck. I understand weighted boxes will crush down a bit but this was ridiculous. We had crushed, torn, opened, and destroyed boxes. The furniture was un useable!!!! Every desk I owned was destroyed. The dining room table was cracked down one side, the dresser that I paid an extra 50 bucks to have them box up was damaged along the entire front surface. A glass lamp that had been packed with a down comforter tightly within a box ended up bent in half almost. I have so many pictures its not funny. It was as if they intentionally and purposefully broke or damaged all they could. I also have missing items. These items have been narrowed down to easily identifiable and portable things, such as a case of Noritake China, a case of California Wine, an expensive hat in its original box, a computer, as well as 8 other boxes we have not yet identified. I must now file a police report in accordance with my renters policy that I had. Thank god for secondary insurance. This is crazy. I have more numbers in different states that I don't know where to call though all seem to have the same happy recording with different company names on them.

If you are reading this I hope you are doing research and are not after the fact reporting a rip off..
