I think Protect America is the scummiest monitoring company on the planet. I am not alone in finding that their product is a joke and customer service is horrible. I triggered the alarm several times and never even got a call from the company asking if everything was alright! Isn't that what I agreed to in exchange for $34 a month? (Breach???)

When I moved out of my apartment and bought a house, I did not want to transfer the monitoring service because I felt the company was not holding up their end of the bargain. I signed with --- and they are a godsend.

Anyway, back to my dilemma with Protect America... When I called to cancel service they said I must send in a 60 day cancellation letter, which I did. When I called back to let them know I mailed it and to find out when I would stop being charged they told me at the end of 2008! I asked if there was any way to send them $300 and the alarm + sensors and the rep said this would constitue a voluntary repossesion and that they would continue to debit my credit card. How is this a repossesion? She also said that canceling the monthly transaction would constitue breach of contract and that I would be turned over for collections!

I have great credit and would never damage it knowingly, even to prove a point. My only option was to pay for the remainder of my contract up front. What exactly did I get in return for my $1000? A good lesson I guess. In closing, if you ever get a call from these alleged con artists, hang up. Tell everyone you know to stay away from these so called crooks.
