Just wanted to let you know that one of their representatives called me today stating that he was responding to an internet inquiry I made regarding health insurance.

Besides telling him first off that I had a cardiac stent 2 months ago and if I was disqualified I wouldn't waste his time or mine, he said there were no pre-existing conditions. My next question to him was is this a health insurance plan or a discount plan. He said it was health insurance and quoted me the following: $159.94 per month which includes unlimited doctor visits, no co-pay, ER/Hospital 1st $2,500 at 100% and 70% thereafter and $300 per day payable to me per day per inpatient hospital stay.

In addition, he gave me the info on the RX plan, $10 co-pay for generic, $20 co-pay for name brand and $40 co-pay for formularies. He also stated that the rate and benefits were guaranteed for 5 years. He stated that the dental and vision portion was a discount plan. I restated by understanding being very specific as to what part was insurance: Doctors, Hospital, ER and RX and the discount portion was the dental and vision. He stated that that was in fact the case.

When we got to the verification process, I understood the recording to say that the plan was a "discount" plan and James, the representative in the verification department put me back to Scott because I stopped the verification process because I was unclear about the wording and what I was really paying for. Scott again told me that the Doctor, Hospital, ER and RX was a health insurance plan.

After hanging up and trying to find the website he gave me which was bogus, I tried calling the customer service number (1-888-811-1233). Apparently it was closed. I called the number on my caller ID which was 561-314-0854 and had to leave a message - message stated it was after hours although this "Scott" person said he was there until 10 pm eastern time at 1-800-730-7315. No answer. I subsequently contacted my credit card company and will be canceling the charge.

Watch out for the fast talking sales people. Don't get sucked in!

When I finally found their website, Protective.com, none of their information referenced "insurance" only "discount plan".
