Providian Financial Let's File Class Action against 30% interest rates at Providian Arlington Texas
I, too just found out about the 28.9% interest rate after my five years with them for on time payments. I feel like I am being punished for being an on time payer.
When I called Providian today I explained that I am on a fixed income as I have advanced breast cancer. Instead of working with me, the comment that was shot back at me was "and when are you going to die". Absolutely hideous people.
They should be shot or at least publicly executed for how they treat us.
There is power in numbers, I think we ought to coordinate a class action effort here. I, too, never received any notification of this increase.

No Class No Action .."You Are Approved!"
#2Consumer Comment
Wed, October 01, 2003
Hello, it is Texino the professional. I am always having to come around with the awful news that there is not an easy way out.
When you get a credit card, you receive a piece of paper with tiny little words. I am always saying; The little words are most dangerous, but people like the big words that say, "You Are Approved!" "High $$ for you!" Meanwhile the little words are saying. "You are in my power; I can raise you APR for any reason or sell your account." And the trainers are telling the collectors, "This people owe the money." "It is their fault they are at the max."
Sure this sick and crazy, but it is also legal. Your US Congress could change it, but they won't because consumer debt is a billion dollar game.
So what do you do? Well, pick out one credit card to pay off and then do it. Pay minimum on other bills and as much as possible on the card you picked as a target. A lot of times, you can get another job for a while. Let's see, $10 per hour is roughly 20,000 a year, so if you were to work part time at that rate you could easily make 8-10,000. That would get a lot of people out of debt. Once you do this, you must accept you lot and live within your means.
A major problem is, people see all these luxury things and they are thinking, "I need that." Well sorry for you. If you want to have a new car and a wireless phone and the fast internet plus buy a house, well you better make 60-100,000 dollars each year. If not, you just plain cannot afford to live certain lifestyles.
So remember, Credit Cards are basically bad and you really do not need to have one. If you must, well get a good % and a low limit like $1000 and only use it for emergency.
If not, then you are buying money for around $1.30 for each $1 you spend. That means something cost $400 cash will cost you $520. That is a bad deal.
Now go and work hard, pay your bills and stay clean. If you don't want to do this, then you must consider socialist type government. I think that is not a good idea
Your pal, Texino
