Providian Financial, Providian Bank And Emerge Master Card Ripoff (Closing Account, High APR and damage to my credit record) Atlanta Georgia
In 1999 I was offered a credit card from Providian (Visa Classic), I accepted it, made payments on time, credit limit was increased several times. It bacame Visa Gold, it's still in good standing and I am making payments in a timely manner.
In 2000 I was offered another card from Providian (ARIA), I accepted it, made payments on time, credit limit was increased several times. It became Visa GetSmart. For nearly 2 years, I was making payments in a timely manner.
In October 2002, I received a letter from Providan Bank that my Visa GetSmart was closed and sold out ot emerge Master Card.
I requested a written reason for closing my accoutn. I got it and it said among other reasons, that I had a "serious delinquecy" on my account, which I totally rejected.
It's been back and forth between "Emerge" and my self since January 2003, I was requesting my account to be reopened, but no positive response. They want to close my account (which has always been in very good standing)and still charge my 29.99% APR.
I complained to the office of "The Attorny General of The State of Kansas". It took nearly 6 weeks and 3 letters from them to have "Emerge" respond, a reponce that took me exactly were we started (Unfairly closing of my accoutn and high APR).
I keep getting letters from "Emerge" threatning me with further legal actions unless I pay.
Now, I had my credit damaged, and I'm beign threatened.
This is a perfect example of big business and credit card companies taking advantage of helpless consumers.
