Providian/ Washington Mutual/ First Resolution Investments Providan sold an erroneous credit card debt I did not owe to Washington Mutual who in turn sold this debt to First Resolution Investments. My credit report says the Washington Mutual credit card was opened in 4/2007. I never opened a credit card with Washington Mutual, never mind in 4/2007. Wash Mutual refused to take report. My 2008 Experian credit report reflected a new 2008 outstanding account for Washington Mutual. The credit report reflects that this credit card account was opened in 4/2007. I never opened a credit card with Washington Mutual. I called WM to let them know of the erroneous credit card opened in my name. They tried to verify the account by asking for my social security number and address, I gave them my social and the city I live in. They said they needed the address I "opened the credit card with". I said that is exactly the information I am trying to get from them. I asked them what card was opened in 4/2007? They said the account with my social has to do with a Providian credit card. I became confused as to why Washington Mutual would be talking about a Providian account and asked them why are we talking about a Providian account? The Customer Service person ignored that question and kept asking for the address the Providian account is under. I said I have no idea what address you are talking about since I do not know what year you are talking about and and what account this is. I said the last time I had any dealings with Providian was in 1998 and they owed me money ($2,500) for a court settlement, I did not have an outstanding balance with them per court agreement. Then I started to understand what was going on, in order for Providian to put an erroneous balance on my credit report, they must have sold an account under my name to Washington Mutual who, in turn sold this account to the out-of-country, Canadian debt collection service
"First Resolutions Management". This is typical of the very under handed and sleazy tactics that Providian is famous for, and why they got socked with a multi-million dollar class action suit in the early 2000's. I now have to know what to do about this erroneous credit reporting. Please help!
