Public Storage auctioned off my storage unit in Alexandria, VA without following Virginia Self-storage Law. They failed to mail me a postcards and a registered or certified letter notifying me of the auction. They are also a party to a class-action employment and civil suit involving "unsavory" auction proceedings against their tenants.  Check out the URL detailing this at topclassactions.com/lawsuit-settlements/lawsuit-news/4352-public-storage-hit-with-lawsuit-over-business-practices/ and chicagobusinesslitigationlawyerblog.com/2011/04/court_upholds_judgment_against_1.html .

Self-storage laws vary by state, so Google "Self-storage laws in [your state]" to find out the exact legal requirements that storage companies must follow to comply with the law.  If you find that your previous self-storage company has violated the lw, I recommend you file a lawsuit IMMEDIATELY or consult an attorney to find out what your next step should be. In most cases, there are already individual or class-action lawsuits filed against the company.  Time is of the essence, as the statute of limitations on filing a complaint may vary by state.
