Public Van Lines Los Angeles Subdivision, Nightmare move, deceptive estimate to begin, horrible customer service, rude, all around unsatisfactory Tarza, California
This company is small (20 people total), not the country wide operation they would like you to believe. They run a dirty business. The customer service rep we worked (Alisa Ben) with was deceptive to begin with. Our estimate for a move from Los Angeles to Chicago was $825. I have moved across the country several times and this seemed very low. When I expressed this concern, she said that they were running a promotion that afforded us a 50% discount.
When we asked her (repeatedly) what might change the final figure she never once said that a significant change in inventory would affect the price significantly. I will admit that this was in the contract, but buried among other inconsequential charges.
She said that we needed to give her an updated inventory list at the very latest, by the night before the move. I did so, twice. Once, a week before and once the night before. Neither of these updates were added to the inventory list. Had she done her job, I would have seen that the price had gone up significantly and would have opted to cancel the move.
The morning of the move, AFTER the movers loaded the truck, they told me that due to the things not on the inventory list and the consequent increase in cubic feet, my final total was DOUBLE the amount that they had initially quoted me. I refused to pay after some very unsatisfactory conversations with the rep and TWO of her supervisors- Amanda and Erica
My things are now in holding and I am considering legal action.

I have recently used Public Van Lines for a cross-country move, and was more than happy. This review, in particular, I believe to be quite heavy-handed and unfairly throws not only this company itself, but members of its staff, completely under the bus.
This person ADMITS that she DID NOT READ the contract, and, in addition, added MORE moving items than was originally agree upon....?? This being said (literally, by her!) I truly do not see how she could have been so utterly shocked upon being charged more for said move. It's simple economics: The more you have in your cart, the more you ultimately end up spending! A more clear, eloquent example would be: If you go to the cashier with a can of vegetables, you will be charged "x" number of dollars for said can of vegetables. However, if you then add 8 additional items, how on earth would you ever expect to spend the SAME amount of money as was originally quoted? Wow, common sense really is not so common, apparently.
You organize a large-scale, country-wide move (of which you claim to have done before,) however you consider things written in a LEGALLY-BINDING contract to be (your words) "inconsequential," then blame the company itself for its misgivings (and, in fact, bash the very nature of their business model, their employees, and/or make inferences as to how they "portray themselves?") WOW...
Furthermore, you claim your rep, Alisa, was "deceptive to begin with." Why, then, did you continue on in/with this process after the initial point of contact? In the words of Matt Damon in "Good Will Hunting," "You people baffle me."
