I was sent a fake official winners letter,included was an enclosed fake official check for 4900, the check is through an invlid account they wanted me to deposit , they also said i won 1,000,000 in U.S. funds ,I am looking to sue because this was a scam and i chose to investigate this along with a few good friends of mine and their phone service is through eazy- tel .a.k.a universal office.The toll free number they use is 1-800-731-6396 and the fake IRS AGENT NAME IS Mr. Michael Clearwater and that s aid contact him with arrangements at1-416-854-1469 and then they ask for me to send them 2900 dollars out of the 4900 to cover taxes but i never did because me,my wife,my manager and his wife found out it was a scam so i told him they will pay for misleading like they did. So this company should be sued and prosecuted the canadian lottery draw of publishers sweepstakes clearinghouse. thank you for hearing my story.

I may be totally wrong, but don't you have to be damaged to have a standing for a lawsuit?
Believing mail that you receive, how are you harmed? If you can prove you had to go to therapy because of the damage the mail did to you, then I suppose those bills would be damages.
The poster said they investigated it. How is that harm? Researching something is working to prevent harm to yourself.
Yes, people most assuredly have feelings, and it's not right to take advantage of those.
But not everything that happens that is wrong or unethical is the basis for a lawsuit.
Has the poster reported the business to governmental authorities? That is a step that should be taken to help protect others. The more the government hears about a business, the more likely they will be able to do something about it.
But I am so curious as to whether an individual can file a lawsuit, AND WIN, just because a company sends out fraudulent mail. Where is the damage, other than hurt feelings?
Does a lawsuit for emotional distress due to a scam company sending you mail have a real chance in court?

well when i filed this report early yesterday morning i meant as well what i said and this is to response the rebuttal statement from birmingham well they deserved to get sued for false propaganda emotional distress and misleaded information and scamming because you do not just take advantage of people like that for fun. people have feelings.

Suing a scam business for BEING a scam would seem to be the area of governmental entities, not for an individual lawsuit. I realize I may well be wrong, just have never heard of that, so very curious.
If a scam business is sued, how likely is it they are going to pay, in any event?
