It was too good to be true. "Overloaded staff, looking for new faces to help our sports and entertainment marketing team... No experience neccesary... Blah blah blah... Call Mary." I called and got set-up for an interview. Me and about 5 other people were waiting to be seen. My interview was very vague. I was very nervous to begin with, so I didn't think of asking about the job too much. The guy said that only 5 out of about 200 were going to make the cut. You can imagine how excited I was when I got called back.

On my first day, me and 4 other people were waiting in the lobby of a rink-dink office building with a huge oak tree out in front. They called us in by name one by one, about 5 minutes apart. When I got called in, I met with a man who walked me around the office a bit and into a room filled with like 9 people. I got introduced around, and got assigned to some young guy with a French accent and his monkey-boy partner.

We drove to a town about 20 miles away, (luckily I only lived about 5 minutes away from this town), and we dropped off monkey-boy in the middle of an office park. Frenchie proceeded to park the car and walk, for the next hour and a half, with me in tow, business to business asking people to switch their long distance to AT&T long distance. I was confused at first then realized what a scam this was. We got yelled at by one lady saying that the office building we were in had no tolerance for solicitors. Frenchie paid no mind and went to the next office.

I was a tool. They get you in with the glitz and prospect of working in an industry that attracts the type of people they require. Young men and women looking for a great career in a field they'll enjoy. Then they use you to bolster their "sales team", or be one of their "Field Reps."

I told Frenchie that this job wasn't for me, used his cell phone to call my sister, and left him behind to peddle his wares alone.

If you encounter this employment ad in the paper, find out AS MUCH AS YOU CAN about the company that wants to interview you. Make sure you ask as many questions as you can.

Don't let this happen to you...

Listen Eric; you can't call showing what you are going to be doing for work a scam! You just didnt understand or even listen in the first interview. There is reason to having you trail with a manager outside of the business. You first need to see sales being done.

Second you need to see how the base of face-to-face marketing works. People are people anywhere, in business, their homes, trade shows, malls, or schools. We can target areas that print, radio, and conventional media can't. Besides you have no idea what the promotion was about, you were too worried about walking around. I guess you should X out being a server, mail carrier, security guard, or any other job because you walk around!! You are just lazy and ignorant to direct advertisement, and certainly don't have the right attitude for what we do. You wasted your own time. But it was worth it for us to see what your attitude would be like! Instead of just hiring you and having you spread your negative attitude to others. Remember you were being interviewed, not interviewing a company. That is not a scam. Let's say you go to a logistic company, they give you a company overview, then invite you back to see what you will be doing exactly. Well it turns out your job will be loading bags on trucks and washing the trucks. Do you think that is a scam also? No it's not. They were nice enough to show you around first before hiring you. You can't do that in one interview. So before you go off saying a company is a scam. Get educated!!!!

Besides how is lowering people's phone bills a scam???? It's not, it actually helps people. The way at which we offer it to people is face to face. That is not a scam either!!! Just because you don't want to do it or can't, doesnt mean it's a scam. O'h and you obviously had no respect for the guy showing you around from the start do to his French accent and his "monkey boy" partner. But hey maybe you will get lucky and find a company that let's you interview them. And if they meet your standards you will allow them to hire you. Give me a break!!! You had the opportunity to ask questions on the second interview and you left. So don't tell others to get more information about companies when you don't. Good luck finding a job with that attitude. I just hope you don't write web sites about every interview that you don't like as a scam!!!
