Quality Stores, Inc; Quality Farm and Fleet; Quality Farm and Country Huge Corporate Ripoff Charlevoix Michigan
I am currently seventeen years old. I was a County Farm and whatever their "real" name is employee for just over a year beginning in October of 2000. I was a very hard worker and put in as many hours as I could.
I was informed, like many other employees that the "company" would be "going under" soon. I became unemployed with this company in Jan of 2002..
Here's the deal: My father just went to a tax preparer, and I was informed that NO federal income taxes were witheld from my paychecks. I am afraid to pay the $500.00 because I'm not sure anyone really knows that this is true or even possible that a company of this size could even operate that way??!!!!!
Aside from the fact that I am technically a "minor", how could this even happen???
If anyone can help me with advice or links, I sure would appreciate it.
Sincerely,
Corey

Not a rip off, misunderstanding

I believe you are misunderstanding the situation you are calling a rip-off. My son worked for Meijers, a very large chain store in Michigan and surrounding states, and he also was did not have taxes taken out of his paycheck and I found it hard to believe, but my understanding is this is common nowdays as most minors don't make enough money to have to pay taxes and were getting it all back and now they don't have to file as they don't make enough to have to pay.

Is it possible that due to Corey's age that he may have been a student at the time and filed his W4 as exempt status, therefore no taxes were taken out of his pay.
