Young man came to door claiming to be a neighborhood kid attending University of Irvine (Irvine, CA). Claimed moved in couple streets away about 6-7 months ago. Claimed to be raising money for a club team trip (Soccer-"Lighting").

Raising money via selling magazine subscriptions for Quality Subscriptions, Inc. ("QSI") Said magazines would be donated to Children's Hospital of Orange County or another similar child-help organization chosen by his mother to "spread the gift."

I gave him a check for $76.00 for two such subscriptions. He gave me a receipt. Minutes later I rethought his story and it just didn't add up since I couldn't recall anybody moving from our area for some time. I called a few neighbors and the people I thought still lived in the house he claimed to have bought and no such thing had occurred. I cancelled my check and walked the neighborhood and found the lying salesman at another neighbors house. Questioned his story and he stuck to it. My neighbor and I escorted him to the house he claimed he lived in and as we approached within one house, he darted off on his razor scooter.

Interestingly, he knew details about other neighbors and used those trying to sell to them as well. His whole story was a lie and search on internet revealed that his M.O. was line for line that used by the QSI con-men.
