In 2001, my husband and I were contacted by Ramada Plaza Resorts to take part in a marketing study and promotion (confirmation #190909388). We redeemed our 10 day promotion package in September, 2003.

Our trip started out with rude behavior from the desk clerk (at the Ramada Resort in Fort Lauderdale). The customer service was better at their Orlando property.

But, by far, the worst ripoff came in the form of the Imperial Majesty Cruise on the Regal Empress (9/28-30/03). We suffered through being asked for additional monies at every turn, enduring sub par food and antiquated decor throughout the ship. My husband and I were herded like cattle through the embarking process. Once on the ship, we were outraged at our accommodations.

We had anticipated a modest, outdoor cabin with a sea view. What we received was a room no bigger than a small walk-in closet with a unsafe bed, with a 13-inch television set completely blocking the only port hole in the room. When we immediately complained about our accommodations, we were told to upgrade to the next level of cabin for another $100. Judging by the sheer number of similarly outraged passengers at the upgrade desk, this was one of the many planned ways that this cruise line intended to get more money from us.

Some passengers had even gone to the extent of generating a makeshift petition before we even left the dock. Many passengers remained in their upgraded rooms. The overpriced alcoholic drinks and unappealing ship decor made many of us long for the end of the dismal trip.

I have been contacted by Ramada recently to partake in another 'marketing promotion'. This just served to rekindled my disdain. I told them in no uncertain terms would I ever stay at one of their properties again. I thought that my disgust and anger at Ramada Plaza Resorts would have dissipated by now but two years later, I still feel very abused, ripped off, and angry.

This company should not be allowed to operate this way and should be penalized for misrepresenting their 'marketing promotions', which in reality, is just another way to subject people to long-winded time-share presentations.
