I was called after filling out a card to win a fabulous vacation at the Toronto Beaches International Jazz Festival, and that little tidbit of information (that it was actually something I HAD done) caught me, because frankly, I've never won anything before in my life. It's that little voice inside you that hopes for some kind of break in life that sucks you in.

Even though I had reservations, and was uncomfortable with how quickly my "personal promotions director", Raquel, was talking, somehow, after I asked a few questions and was quickly reassured with somewhat sensible sounding answers, I paid $798 US for a "fabulous 11-day vacation to Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Daytona Beach and the Bahamas" for 4 people valued at $3285 (and I feel ridiculous for even typing this out). I know I should know better, and the way that after any answer to any question she rushed back into a script and into getting my credit card information was a key tip off, but still I gave it over. It's a vacation I would love to take someday, but it's not in the cards right now for me and I wouldn't have even THOUGHT of buying such a vacation had it not been presented as "I won" (I am truly a sucker born yesterday).

The reason I wanted to write was because Rich's script is EXACTLY what I heard, and seeing it woke me up completely - thank you, thank you, thank you for taking the time to post it. I'll be cancelling my "trip" tomorrow as soon as business hours start, and I will report back if I have any trouble doing so.

Thank you to this website and especially to Rich and to Jennie for their comments and advice.

Come on Nick, you don't actually think any of us believe your BS, do you? Your so called company is the biggest rip off out there. Have you ever stayed at the Ramada Plaza Resort? Or the Amerihost? Probably not since you're an employee, and you know what the hotel's are really like. Quit wasting our time with your rebuttals, it's pointless.

Response from a Ramada Plaza Employee

#5UPDATE Employee

Wed, August 24, 2005

Hi, Claire. My name is Nick Yang, and I am currently an employee here at Ramada Plaza.

What we are offering here is called a fan-trip.
We are offering the discounted price for a reason. Basically, if you went on to a vacation to florida or Bahamas, and you really had lots of fun there. What would you do after you come home?

Wouldn't you recommand that to your friends/families? Wouldn't you start telling your family about how big and gigantic the cruise was, and showing them the pictures you've taken at the beaches? Your friends will probably want to go there too, they will also likely to choose the agency that you have been with and trusted.

After your friends went to the vacation, they will probably start to tell their friends about it. Someday, you may wanted to revisit the fabulous and beautiful florida/bahamas. Which agency would you choose? Has to be the one you actually trust right?

So you see, we are able to provide you with fabulous highly discounted vacation trips base on the fact that we could get Free-Word to mouth advertisement and repeat-sales.

Advertisement has to be the most expensive expense for a business, and word to mouth advertisement would be the most effective way to get our message across to the public.

Therefore, it is actually a trade, you benefits us by giving us word-to mouth advertisement, and repeat sales. We Benefits you by giving you a highly discounted trip.

We receive tons of applications every year,
obviously, we can't afford to give everyone who fill out a form the highly discounted trip, therefore we pick our candidates based on Demographics.

Only a small lucky portion of the forms will be chosen. Therefore, you are pretty lucky to be presented with this fabulous opportunity.

Your previous rep. Raquel should actually use "you have been chosen" rather than "you have won". I personally apologize for Raquel's choice of words.

Hope you can understand us, and have gained more knowledge about what we do now.

If you still have questions or concerns,

Have a fantastic day!
