Ramada Plaza Resorts took an unauthorized amount of money out of my acct even though I told them I didnt want the vacation victimized many consumers false promises Ft Launderdale Florida
Thank goodness I found out about this site. I recieved a vacation offer July 24th, 2003 for 2 nights Gold Key accomadations at Ramada Plaza Resort,or Amerihost, a 2 night cruise on the Majestic Cruise Line to Nassau, another 3 nights at the RPR in S. Florida and 7 days of transportation provided by Alamo rent a car.
I would also recieve a4days/3nights in Puerta Vallarta and Las Vegas. The saleslady was a smooth operator she talked fast and she asked questions like what I did for a living, and I said I was a nurse. She wanted to know if I had ever cruised before and I ssaid yes to the Bahamas. I told her that I had always wanted to go to P. Vallarta and she said well this is a part of your trip. We both were very excited and she went on to explain all of the amenities and it sounded to good to be true.
She must have sensed that I had some doubts and started to defend there legitimacy. She said do you know how you can tell if its legit and I said no she said look at the postmark and she went on to explain what to look for. Then she mentioned hat unlike other companies that push consumers to pay up front that they dont. So it was sounding good at this point.
She did say that the price was based on dbl occupancy and that I would have to pay half. But since she had already said that I didnt have to pay anything up front then I knew that this meant down the line. She continued to fast talk and mesmerize me with all the excitement that I would have and how much fun Ide have.
Somewhere along the way she mentioned a price of 698, now she had already told me that half of the payment was six hundred and ninety eight dollars and that I didnt have to pay anything up front, I didnt think it was unusual when she asked for 6.98 which she expressed as 698, not six hundred and ninety eight dollars. It was the way she expressed it. All the travel places Ive dealt with have ccharged a small processing fee/registration fee so I didnt think it was an usual request when she asked me for the payment. And since I was interested in finding out more then I didnt mind paying $6.98. So I gave her my card# and when she ran it she said I only had five hundred and twenty three dollars on it.
I was thinking to myself that ladies math is bad $523.00 is more than $6.98 so I told her that I know that I have enough to cover for $6.98. And at that moment she said I didnt mean $6.98, Im talking $698.00 she said you must have misunderstood me and I know how she presented it to me. So at that point I told her no way that I didnt have that kind of money available in my acct. That was my rent money. She said its to late now I ran it. And I told her I didnt even confirm. Then I got switched over to a man named David Nirenblatt and I explained what happened to him and he said that if I didnt go on to the next step which is to confirm then my card was just on hold for the amt of $523.00 and that after 72 hours it would automatically drop off.
I told him I didnt even authorize a hold so that they had no right to do this. He said that the only people that could take the card off hold is the corp office plus he said that generally the bank will request a ref# and a cancellation# and since Ive havent been charged anything then they wont have anything to fax the bank.
I called Wachovia and explained what just happened after sending them an email regarding this July 24th, 2003. She called RPR and put all of us on 3 way. The corp supervisor told her the same thing that Mr. Nirenblatt said. So the wachovia supervisor told RPR that she understood if she didnt have the appropriate data to fax that she would accept a statement from confirming that she would release my funds back to my acct. RPR sup. said that she would be willing to give her a verbal ok to release the hold but would not put it writing by sending a fax. Both I and the Wachovia rep thought that was really strange and something didnt sound good about this. Wachovia rep told me to pursue this further. So since RPR sup. had told the Wachovia sup that the hold would drop off in 72 hours then I believed it.
Sat, July 26th,2003 I called Wachovia regarding my acct and thats when I was told that the amt for $523.00 had been taken off hold and a debit for this amt was to RPR. I was devastated. Even after they told me that it was only on hold. I called several times to Wachovia to aske if they were for sure and they all told me the same.
Sun I called Wachovia and spoke with a CS worker and I told him that I would put him on # way for him to explain that the money had been debited from my acct and posted for RPR. With RPR sup. on the phone she said that they have no record of such a transaaction and that she couldnt release something that didnt exist. Then I discovered another strange thing RPR sup. was saying that the transaction had to have been done Fri in or der for it to finalize Mon July28th. And I know that aint true I sent an email to Wachovia the day this happened and talked with them regarding this and they said my acct reflected that $523.00 had been put on hold on July 24th. So I know somewhere there is documentation that reflects this, no matter how much RPRs rep is tryong to say that it took place Fri the 25th.
Now I dont know who is lying but I believe that my bank aint going to give me false information regarding my acct. It has been72 hours now and they didnt say business days at first, she said it today. So it should be back in my acct by July 29th Tuesday morning according to what my bank said. I dont want no trouble I just want my rent money back. I have 2 children at home and I cant get evicted over this. My rent is due on the 1st and I need my money back. I am not even working I am disabled and on disability so I cant afford to loose this much money. I hope that they will do the right Godly thing and return my money. How can they take advantage of disabled seniors like this. Dont they have a heart. Please I want my money back please help me any way that you can. If they do the right thing i will do a follow up report and it will reflect such but but I feel like they are going to be very reluctant to do so. And if they dont then I will keep my report as is.

I actually went on the hell trip - and came back determined and angry to get back the money I wasted! I sent a lengthy ripoff report (which is posted on this site) to my Attny General Richard Blumenthal and the Commissioner of the Florida Department of Consumer Services Mr Charles H Bronson and, of course, Ramada Plaza Resorts. I did get $1200 which is better than nothing!!! They refunded me the initial trip charges of $598 per person. I am thrilled and wanted to share the information with you and hopefully you can have the same luck I did. Hey - I got this all done within a MONTH!
