On October 1, 2002 I accepted via telephone the vacation package I was offed by mail. I authorized Ramada to automatically debit my checking account in the amount of $58.16 monthly, until the entire package was paid. My first payment was schedule for November 1st.

On October 8th, for financial reasons, I decided I did not want to obligate myself to this expense. I called Ramada's Customer Care Center to have my account canceled and the automatic debit stopped. Marjorie, the representative I spoke with that day assured me the paperwork would be processed and I would not have any problems.

On November 13th Ramada debited my account for $58.16. I called the Customer Care Center about this error and they assured me a credit would be processed which would take about 3 to 14 business days to actually post to my checking account. I was displeased Ramada could not guarantee an immediate posting to my account, since the debit was processed erroneously.

In the meantime a check I had previously written was in transit and in the process of being posted to my account, leaving no time for me to deposit extra money into this account. As a result I was assessed an overdraft charge by my bank, which fortunately for me was waived due to the circumstances. However the Company to which the check was written charged me $35 for the bounced check.

As of today the credit has not yet posted to my account. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will soon post as Ramada assured me. I will fax a complaint to Mr. Daniel Lambert and/or Jim Varillo in reference to the $35 charge. Hopefully my request will be honored within a resonable timeframe.

For precautionary reasons I will have my checking account number changed.

I will also say that ripoffreports.com has been very instrumental in my obtaining the proper phone numbers and contact names to Ramada's headquarter office. Ramada's Customer Care Center does not give this information.

Two insufficient funds charges later, I have received Ramada's credit to my checking account. My bank has generously waived the insufficient funds charges.

It turns out that the insufficient funds charges were for purchases I had made at the time of Ramada's error and not for the check I thought had bounced. Therefore I did not incur a $35 charge.

I am relieved I do not have to deal with Ramada further.
