I will be upfront and tell you I am the former Director of Sales for this property.

I started my employment in Nov of 2005 and left in April of 06. I was assured at the beginning that the new owners were going to be doing extreme renovations to the property. I believed the property had a lot of potential being located just outside the Marine Corps base. I thought it would be a great challenge to rebuild the business and rewarding in the end. Oh how wrong I was. I do not write the following out of bitterness or spite. I do this because it is necessary and you should know.

The property for one is owned by the Patel family. Primary investors for this property are Shanker Patel and Amrish Patel. Shanker is what I call the Pakistani Godfather. He yells and screams at employees and insults.

Not one employee (or former) from any property has even one kind word for this man. Evil comes to mind for me. A nasty human being. If you are white and ESPECIALLY a white WOMAN you have ZERO value to this man.

They do NOT care about the guest needs or health. The kitchen is and has been infested with an unreal amount of roaches. I have never eaten a thing there and wouldn't recommend you do either, unless you like the extra protein. The company Hospitality Solutions that leases the lounge and kitchen and have for many years, and beyond negligent. The kitchen is not only filthy but also dangerous. Gas leaks, pilot lights out often, freezers in which the door latches don't work!! and more. Food left open and exposed to the infestations.

The rooms, well I witnessed a lot of the renovations and know wallpaper and ceiling "popcorn" was applied over mold and water damage. This family (Patel's) are the type to minimize renovation expenses by covering over things, and doing the minimal amount they can and still increase revenue.

The first floor of the main building I would NEVER EVER stay in. They don't plan to renovate these rooms. Nasty! The second floor is much better as well as the rear building. But much of the furnishing have yet to be replaced and the fabric chairs are so nasty I wouldn't sit in them at all!

The rooms on the first floor have patio doors that are damaged and as a woman I would not feel safe. A lot of evidence of attempts to break in these rooms due to the door frames being bent scratched where the lock is. Jimmy bars are of no use since most are bent and damaged. I warned them they are leaving themselves open to a law suit should anyone be harmed not to mention the guilt of knowing they didn't care enough to fix for the safety of the guest.

The new GM Ms.Endler has worked very hard to get the property up to standards and is very concerned about all I mentioned above, but without the allocation and approval of money needed by Shanker Patel, she is very limited in what she can do. She is concerned about ALL of the above and fights the battles daily to do what is necessary to improve the property and guest services.

And due to the cheapness and carelessness of the Patel's, the property failed its last inspection in April.

This property could be a winner with dedicated owners, but unfortunately they do not see the ultimate potential. There motto is do the least amount you can and demand the most.

You are best off to seek a property in Dumfries or Manassas or even Potomac Mills. However, the Patel's also own the Best Western in Potomac Mills. Check out www.yourdchotels.com to learn which properties to avoid. They own all of these.

Absolutely the worst people to work for and in my opinion, if they hate Americans so much they should go back to where they came from and PRONTO! They absolutely do not belong in the Hospitality Business. I have worked in hospitality for 10 years and have NEVER worked for such awful, uncaring, irresponsible people in my life! Nor have I have written anything negative about any property I have worked for.

#2UPDATE EX-employee responds

Wed, July 05, 2006

I too had been an employee of the Shanker Patel family back in 2003 and experienced exactly the same treatment as a Dir. of Sales of their Springfield, VA hotel. In 2003 it was a Days Inn undergoing a "renovation" that was completed in Feb. '04 and turned over to the Best Western Springfield.

I had been hired to do sales during this supposed renovation which was in fact exactly done in the same manner at the Ramada Quantico: do the least possible, the cheapest way possible, and cover any major plumbing and/or other problems.

I too was treated with disrespect and witnessed many other female employees harassed and screamed at repeatedly including my boss also a female General Manager.

After a year's work at this property, I was told that if I didn't sign a non compete contract, I'd lose my job. Knowing I would not give up my right to freely pursue employment, in my field, at another hotel within a 15 mile radius - I refused to sign and was released from employment.

Not only would I never recommend anyone to stay at a Shanker Patel family owned property, in the metro DC area (and he owns several), I would empathize with anyone who chose to work for them at any of their properties.

My recommendation is to avoid them and if you have worked with this ownership, to file a human right's violation report with your local county office of Human Rights.

Thanks for allowing this information to be available to the public.
