I was interested in purchasing some proof coins. I found them at Ray Komka Coins. I did research on Coin Talk, which is a reputable forum afaik, where one person related a positive experience. There was another member who said that his prices were high, but the price listed on his website was fair. There was even a 2% discount forpaying with a check, which benefits everybody. So I made the order.

I immediately called and talked to him. I said I wanted to make sure everything was in order, and asked him his procedure when paying by check, since there is a delay from a credit card payment. He said, "I put the coins aside, I deposit the check and wait for it to clear, and then ship the coins.".

I sent the check, then waited. I never heard another word or email from Ray. Twelve days later I'm wondering why the coins haven't shown up. I check on the order status and it says, "Sorry, we have to cancel your order and return your check. Oversold inventory.". But, checking on the website, there are the very same coins!!! Oh, but at ver 25% higher price. So it wasn't an "oversold inventory" after all, it was Ray Komka greed.

So this lowlife is definitely NOT a man of his word, but additionally he is a real jerk. He wasn't man enough to notify me via email, and wouldn't answer his phone when I was calling. He wouldn't even confirm that he sent my check back when I merely asked in an email. So I had to pay another $25 to my bank. Not his problem though. He cost me the opportunity to purchase at another dealer for almost two weeks, and now the price has increased at other dealers (which I understand, I had no agreement with another dealer).

I suppose he figured that since I'm over 1000 miles away I couldn't do anything, that is why I appreciate websites such as Ripoff Report. I am going to try to file a complaint with the Attorney General in New York. He took my coins, he caused monetary damages to me, and he shouldn't be able to get away with it. If I don't make any progress in a year, I'll try to picket at the big coin show in Florida. Maybe I'll even find some other unhappy customers. But I would be highly suspicious of any positive reviews. The one Coin Talk member was right, his prices are high, and even higher after you buy the coins.

I have made a few different purchases from Ray komka Coins over the past few years and Id just like to share the positive experiences with readers of this report. I am in this industry as well and Ray Komka would be considered competition considering several of the items offered by him or available from me on my site(s) so you can take that for whatever its worth. Let me get to my purchases, now. Coins are priced very differently throughout the many sites selling them and as a collector you got to do your homework to find the lowest price out there and I can tell you with all the searching Ive done, and amongst the similar businesses I buy from (4 total) and a good 1/3rd of Rays inventory couldn't be matched if you tried (and I have) and the other 2/3rds is fair at least. So in that aspect he is simply the best. As far as payment goes I cant comment differences however Paypal is easy and secure and accepted and nothing has gone wrong. Shipping has been a little longer on average then I would hope however, and once it seemed like it was closing in on 2 weeks. But my order showed up packaged absolutley perfectly in a manner to protect the coins and thats #1 in my book. The mailman could have just tossed em out of the truck into a s****.>

It is great if Don doesn't mind getting ripped off by unscrupulous coin dealers, but I do.  I didn't know that coin dealers were exempt from contract laws.  And even beyond that, Ray Komka was such a jerk, not even bothering to let me know that he decided to rip me off for the coins I BOUGHT.  I even told him to let me know if there were any problems with the order, since I usually do pay by credit card.  It was Ray Komka who said it was fine to pay by check, it was Ray Komka who said that he would "put the coins aside, wait for the check to clear, and then send them."  Don isn't very knowledgeable if he thinks Paypal or a credit card would turn out any different.  The bottom line is it is Ray Komka GREED is the reason he didn't live up to his word.  I just hope people will understand who they're dealing with, and also that there are honorable coin dealers out there, it is just that Ray Komka isn't one of them.

It is unfortunate this individual had a negative experience with Ray Komka coins.  I personally have had many purchases from Ray all of which have been very positive.  Compared to other professional numismatists I have purchased from, Ray Komka sells higher quality products.

Reading through this complaint I see the problem was caused by paying with a personal check.  PayPal is the best way to pay on eBay and the internet for coins, a credit card is next best.  I have used both methods to purchase from Ray Komka with orders processed and shipped with a day or two.  Regarding oversold or prior sold coins, this is a common complaint about many coin dealers.  I use to get upset until I came to realize this is the nature of the coin business.  Using PayPal allows immediate purchases or immediate refunds if the inventory is different from what is posted on the web.
